An Unexpected Find



The past is hard to let go of.
“Lieutenant! There is something on the radar!” a girl about the age of eleven said. Another girl about sixteen walked over to her companion, and frowned.

Her expression remained calm and unconcerned, but her eyes showed a flicker of surprise and hope. “Take her steady.”

“But- there is an abnormal cluster of ice above-”

“Obey- I just need to check something out.”

Her सेकंड in command listened, and ordered “Easy as she goes.”

The ship groaned a little, and the leader turned a little green. “Ah, I hate travel द्वारा water.”

“You didn’t want a plane, and it’s impossible to use a land-rover in this kind of weather.” Another girl about fourteen pointed out. She shivered. “It’s so cold here- we’d freeze in a matter of minutes.”

The leader’s expression turned hard. “That’s what I’m hoping for.”

“Release the valves- open the floodgates.” The leader barked in the ship. “We are going under.”

Her followers rushed around at the order, and with a large popping noise as the pressure increased around them, when she looked out the window she saw blue.

The cold water surrounded the boat- now a mini submarine- and the girl slowly pulled on her pressure gear.

She was feeling very hopeful at the moment- maybe after all these years of searching (yes, it had been many years) she might have found a clue...

Shaking her from her thoughts, she tried to focus at the task at hand. “Keep the sub in position,” she ordered her सेकंड in command.

The other girl nodded, and then hesitated before saying “Good luck.”

थलाया nodded grimly. “As to you- keep the radar updated so we can travel to the coordinates.”

“Will do.”

The first shock- the water was extremely cold. Luckily, थलाया had on her equipment and her breathing tank, otherwise she would drown in a matter of minutes. The last person she had known to be able to survive without needing this-- well, that was partially the reason she was here.

थलाया motioned for her three other companions, and they took out small motors that looked like there were प्रशंसकों attached to them. One of them handed on to Thalia, and when she flipped on the switch it sent her flying forwards in the water.

Her फ्रेंड्स turned theirs on as well, and the group of them were heading exactly in the coordinates they had been sent.

थलाया frowned as she saw a large object approaching them. “Phoebe, I think आप need to see this...” she कहा into her radio. “Bring the ship around here.”

A few मिनटों later, the small sub was hovering in the cold Arctic waters around Thalia. She tapped the glass outside the control room, and then swam over to knock on the large blockage of ice.

Phoebe made a face, and then motioned for थलाया to come back inside. थलाया made a gesture to her फ्रेंड्स outside with her to ditch the mission and head back to the sub. They all nodded and started swimming over with her.

Inside, थलाया stripped off the flexible suit made to protect आप from all sorts of elements- something that had been designed recently by...well, it seemed recent. It was actually...a very long time ago.

“What did आप see?” थलाया asked her सेकंड in command. Phoebe frowned. “We need to check on the surface- I think we may be onto something huge...”

थलाया didn’t hesitate, and grabbed the speaker. “Captain, we are preparing to surface. Hunters, grab your warmest sweaters- the weather forecast is gonna be chilly.”

Phoebe chuckled to herself quietly, as थलाया tried to ignore the तितलियों in her stomach.

At the surface, the snow crunched beneath Thalia’s white combat boots. She was wearing sunglasses, a precaution because of the Arctic’s snow, and the reflection off the sun, it could make आप go blind.

She and her scouts were taking small detectors, looking for anything out of the ordinary, या any sort of life that could be hidden underneath the snow.

थलाया was spread out farther than the rest, but still keeping a सुरक्षित distance from the sub, incase they were surprise attacked.

थलाया was waving the detector over the snow frustrated, as she had found nothing so far.
Then she hit a hot spot- her detector went nuts, and the pining noises it made could be heard echoing across the wilderness.

“Get a drill,” थलाया ordered her friends. “Or a shovel. We need to dig.”

Two drills, and a laser beam from the ship’s own power source, they somehow managed to break the ice. थलाया used a rope, and tied it down to a spike into the hard फ्रोज़न earth. Her and two other scouts jumped down into the pit, slowly lowering themselves into the unknown.

At about fifty feet below the surface, the tip of Thalia’s boots touched hard packed snow. She unclipped the rope from her waist, and flipped on a flashlight.

The beam penetrated the thick darkness- it was like syrup. Deep magic was here, थलाया could feel it.

For a moment, the tip of her beam caught the light of something else. Intrigued, she pressed forward, and her hand came to something solid.

Wiping away the edges of snow, she aimed the beam onto the object. Her breathing stopped.

From the light, she could faintly make out the words in the फ्रोज़न snow: THE ARGO II
