Have I missed something?

OK, I've only read the first three Percy Jackson books.
As a horse-lover, I प्यार the pegasi, especially the black pegasus stallion, Blackjack. But I'm sure that in 'The Sea of Monsters' the black pegasus was female?
Am I wrong? Was the mare that escaped in the सेकंड book a different horse?
