Chapter Three
Glory’s head was pounding. She slowly opened her eyes. She was laying in the back सीट of a vehicle. Someone was cradling her head in their lap. Glory looked up and saw Anna’s delicate face peering back down at her. Anna smiled when she saw Glory was awake.
“Gabe, Aden! She’s finally awake!” Anna’s cool voice actually sounded happy.
“Why would I care if she’s awake या not?” Aden’s hard voice shook the remaining sleepiness out of Glory’s mind. Her दिल clenched at the uncaring tone of his voice. She must have imagined what he कहा to her when he was carrying her.
“ Because आप were the one who put her to sleep, आप idiot!” Anna snapped back.
“Yeah, Aden. आप shouldn’t have put her under that deep.” Gabriel added. Aden, who was driving, accelerated.
“ Slow down.” Anna ordered. “Glory’s scared.”
Glory glanced up at her, surprised. Glory thought she had been hiding her fear well. Anna smiled at her again.
“ I just know these things, Glory.” She added softly.
“ I could care less if she’s scared या not. We have to make it to the सुरक्षित house.” Aden growled.
Glory sat up quickly, blinking as her head spun. “Safe house?”
Gabriel turned to face her from the passenger seat.
“ We have to protect you, Glory.” His voice was kind and sincere. The complete opposite of Aden.
“ Protect me?” Glory protested. “ I don’t even know you! I don’t understand any of this!” Glory trailed off and looked out the window. She was surrounded द्वारा trees. Steep hills rose up from either side of the road. Glory stared out the window, her fear rising. She didn’t recognize any of this. How far away was she from her house? Something else flashed into her mind.
“ And how did those जानवर escape from the zoo? The closest zoo is miles away.” Glory said, frowning.
She saw Anna and Gabriel exchange another look. What did all these looks mean?
“ Glory, there is a lot आप must be told. But not right now. आप have to trust us. Just know that we need you. Aden needs you.” Anna कहा softly, looking pleadingly at her with soulful brown eyes.
“ No I do NOT!”
Glory looked up into the rear-view mirror. She met Aden’s eyes. They were hard amber again, and shooting furious sparks in her direction. Glory knew she had to get away from these people. There was just something not right about them. She slowly slid toward her door. She was going to have to run for it.
