Back in the 1950’s, there was a movie द्वारा the name of The Thing from Another World. It was really cheesy and kinda silly, but it was a decent movie. Probably outdated today. I wouldn’t know. I haven’t watched it in years. So, in the 80s, John Carpenter, who worked on the हैलोवीन movie, had started working on a remake, and thank god that we get to talk about a good remake on here. Probably my personal प्रिय remake out of all of them. That remake is The Thing, and it definitely is a thing alright. A good thing… Did I Really write that?
So the movie takes place in the Antarctic, where scientists are taken द्वारा surprise when a strange alien life form is found in the area. As it turns out, this alien is able to switch it’s body into different shapes and can even turn into the very people in the lab, and it is also a very hostile alien (Because of course it is). The alien is weak to only fire, so the group must do what they can to protect themselves from the alien, while making sure who they can trust and who they can’t trust, as the alien tries to kill them one द्वारा one, द्वारा being them. The movie has such a creative idea, and I प्यार it. John Carpenter really knows how to make a horror movie suspenseful and creepy. The designs of the alien, the sight of the actors दिखा रहा है fear, and the lack of संगीत really make this one of the scariest फिल्में out there. Let’s talk about it, shall we?
First of, the Thing itself. I प्यार everything about the alien in this movie. This has to be one of the most creative ideas for a monster ever to be conceived into horror movies. The monster starts off as a dog, which turns into this pile of dog guts and blood, with tentacles that can latch onto anything, before turning into a human form. And once in human form, the grotesque imagery starts to rear it’s grotesquely ugly face. The Thing can turn a person’s face into one big mouth and latch it’s tongue around people, grow a giant dog-like mouth on the side of it’s face, oh and who can forget the iconic scene where it can turn a guy’s chest into a giant mouth and grow मकड़ी legs on the head. The Thing has to be one of the most disgusting kinds of monsters with how it can reshape the human body into so many disturbing things, and I प्यार everything about it.
The suspense in this movie is also some of the best. As the monster starts to become और and और like them, managing to hide itself in some of the best ways possible, the group are unable to tell who really is the monster and who is actually human. Conflict breaks out and people are losing their minds every सेकंड of this movie. They know that the monster is one of them, but they have no idea who it is. The scene that does this the best is the scene where they take blood samples of each one there to see who is the monster. The characters are all scared as to who the monster is, and are all sitting there, wondering just who it could be. And the संगीत in the scene is the best? Why is that? Because there is no music. It’s just a very silent scene, and आप are just wondering “Who’s the monster? Which one of them is it?” the lack of संगीत manages to make the scene scarier than what it could have been with creepy background music, and that’s what makes the movie so good with suspense and build up.
But I think the best way The Thing creates suspense is how it uses lighting. Want me to spoil the entire movie for you? Well, too bad. John Carpenter uses lighting to दिखाना who is the monster and who is human. He shows this द्वारा having a light glimmer in the person’s eyes. If the person’s eyes have light in them, they are human. If the person has no light in their eyes, they are the monster. And that is why the ending of this movie is one of my favorites. The two characters at the end of the movie, MacReady and Childs, are just sitting there, after having killed the monster, या so they think. They both sit there, and they both know that the other does not trust them one bit. And instead of telling you, the movie just ends. But, wait, what about the light glimmer. Surely, that should दिखाना who’s human and who’s the monster… No. These two characters were the only characters in the entire movie who had both of these in their movies. They both occasionally had light in their eyes, and no light. So, आप still have no idea who’s the monster and who’s the human, and that is what makes this movie so good.
The movie really is a प्रिय of mine. It managed to mix suspense with one of the most creative monsters in the history of horror movies, at least for me, using some of the best make-up and puppet-like designs possible. Unlike that crappy 2011 remake of The Thing that used badly made CGI. The Thing was able to get some प्यार as time went on, even getting a video game that no one ever talks about, so I have no idea what it’s like. If you’re in the mood for a really gruesome and suspenseful movie, than this is the film for you. Take care.
