75Claudia so tell me how you really feel? LOL I love both the British version and US version because they bring totally different things to the table. Its like comparing Gareth and Dwight. Why try? Rainn and Mackenzie are both brilliant and their characters are different yet manage to be completely hilarious. You shouldn't see it as a competition. I mean do you realise there are also French and German versions too? I for one was disappointed that the UK version did not continue so I am grateful that Gervais allowed The Office US version to be made as it is equally as brilliant as the first.

immisterkevin Hey if Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant enjoy it, then that should be enough because The Office was their vision. The thing that the US does better than the UK....they have an outstanding ensemble cast instead of just four main characters. And stop comparing US and UK. If you don't like it, don't watch, just don't bash it on a fansite idiot. If it's so bad, how come it has a large fan base and critics love it? I mean, it was bad Season 1 and now it's the best comedy on TV

maybeastarbucks I immensely enjoy both the British and American versions of the show. If you want, Britain can take one of our popular shows... I'd like to see a British version of Friends.

claire86 its pretty obvious Ricky and Stephen have been pressured into complimenting the us version by whatever company are releasing extras in the states(iv seen the youtube video of Ricky talking about it and he looks about as sincere as a bent politician) and on the subject of extras in season 2 he rips the piss out of crass blatant sitcoms which is what the office US is. I think every comedy should finish after 2-3 seasons. Going out on a high and all that. Plus the Jim and Pam story was so insanely blatant they might as well have had love hearts floating above their heads. The most annoying this is that America can do intelligent, subtle comedy (arrested development being the best) But this is shot down half way through a season!? In my opinion Remakes should be banned and left to their original format and if other countries dont understand it then theres always 8 simple rules on. Simple being the operative word.

iluvstrongbad The only way to enjoy both of them, is to see them as different shows, otherwise it is impossible. I prefer the British version, but the US version is funny for its own characters, don't compare Gervais with Carell. I agree, I laugh in both shows, but I find myself crying from laughter in the original. Nothing better than the original. The fact that the MADE an American version doesn't bother me as much, as the people who say that the American was way better. Oh, and immisterkevin? Large fan base? High School Musical had a "large fan base." That proves nothing...

jlil02 American version has a larger fan base simply because more people are exposed to it, not because it's "better." The American version is tailored to American tastes, the Brit version to Brit tastes. Americans like their entertainment to come at them fast. We get bored quickly and will turn it off if there's any dead time. Brits are a bit more cerebral. It's interesting to watch American TV from the 60's and 70's. It moves much slower than today. One wonders how we could have been that patient. Then there is the language difference. We both speak English, but we speak it differently. When I watch the British version, I find myself working pretty hard just to follow the conversation. I don't want to work hard when I watch a sitcom. It kills the comedy. I agree the American and Brit versions are alike. There may be other versions in other languages as well. I think the creators of shows must market their ideas to networks in different countries. When I was in Germany once I saw a German version of Wheel of Fortune (Merv Griffin, right?). Talk about long puzzles!
