I think this and misusing "random" are the most annoying, but none of them severely get on my nerves.

This is the sole reason why I say "coincidental" and not "ironic".

What bothers me most is when I use the word "literally" in either a sarcastic, figurative, or hyperbolic way and someone calls me out for not using the word "literally" in a literal way. It was kind of the point... ...the sentence would have been and meant something entirely different had I meant to use it definitionally.

Anyway I've grown to find the idea that words must only ever be used strictly to their precise definition with no flexibility, nuance, or colloquialism to be infinitely more frustrating than using words outside of their definition, within reason of course. Language is flexible and changes over time and sometimes words have usage that stretches the limits of their strict definition.

criticizing “literally” overuse is like criticizing “like” and “um.” it’s often girls who overuse it bc they’re not taught to be confident when they speak. criticize the culture that breeds that overuse instead.
