I don't watch news, I read it on the websites. But apparently news aren't very newsworthy. My professor just always point out that they are just for profit and to stick to academic resources.
Although, if you consider DNews as news, then I watch that almost everyday. Scientific discovery is still news I suppose.

i went from growing up watching it every night to now just seeing updates occasionally in my newsfeed but not actually sitting down to watch the news anymore.
Got sick of media bias.

I used to watch it more often but these past few months it's been nothing but the presidential election and a whole lot of Trump. Like helloooo I wanna know what's going on with the rest of the world, not just what's going on inside the White House. There could be a serial killer right in my neighborhood and I would never know because the news is too worried about updating everyone on what Trump tweeted last night.

My Dad watches it while I'm playing Animal Jam on the computer. I stare at it whenever someone gets murdererd.

^ Lol, nothing like seeing someone murdered.

I watch the news a few times a week but honestly, just like Zeppie said, I'm pretty much sick of the media. I mostly see biases, useless pieces of information regarding only famous people at most, empty words, politicians passing the blame to each other without any solution coming across in the end and repeating the same with every issue that is presented to them. There are some real, meaningful and at times valuable news here and there but are quite rare at the moment. I just watch the news in general for the sake of doing so and the curiosity of what they will come up next. I don't really rely on them !!!!

RE media bias: I feel like TV news is actually less susceptible to that than online news.

This is because you tend to get really filtered view of news on your social media feeds. Only selected stories are posted - ones that are controversial or will get lots of comments. And people generally only follow pages that confirm their world view, not challenge it. The end result is that people online are highly split along partisan lines in the information they receive... which just acts as a positive feedback loop in reinforcing their views and making them more extreme. This 'echo chamber' effect is pretty well-documented. And it's had a very real and very bad effect on politics.

Of course, the same can be true of TV news, but (I believe) not to the same extent as that. Particularly if you're watching a national broadcaster that has to be neutral, eg. ABC (I don't know what the American equivalent is). Also, you generally sit down and watch a wider range of stories, not just the clickbait that grabs your interest enough or makes you angry enough to make you follow the link.

Lol there are certainly exceptions though, like if you're watching something with a well-known political agenda such as Fox News. They've legitimately won the last few lawsuits filed against them by successfully arguing they're not "news", but entertainment.

My local news channels are the same as their online. The article descriptions are pretty much the entire script of the video. Other than that, I read some German news and stick to science newsfeeds.

>Newscasters are obnoxious half the time

>A lot of news stories aren't really news worthy

>If you're following a case- let's say a murder case, cause I used to like following those until this whole thing started to drive me ABSOLUTELY INSANE- they'll repeat the same information literally for weeks without releasing any new information, but every single time it's like all the news is brand new and breaking and I get sick of hearing this same crap

>one time our local news station for an entire month was hyping up this news story about a woman who had two sets of twins and a blog. They hyped this for an entire month. It had it's own commercials like it was a effing Star Wars movie or some shit. I usually like that news station but man that was ridiculous.

>I really hate, really really hate, when news stations will tease a story before a commercial break, and they'll say it's next or coming up or something similar, and you sit through the commercial break, you sit through the annoying newscasters thinking they're personable and likeable celebrities, you'll sit through the news stories that aren't news stories, sit through the same story they talked about the day before with no information added, and THEN they have the NERVE to tease the story you're interested in AGAIN and switch to commercial break AGAIN. And they'll do this OVER and OVER again and you slowly start to realise that the story that you're interested in is going to be at the end of the program and you're going to have to sit through the whole thing to get to it. You've fallen for their trap. EVERY NEWS STATION DOES THIS. IT MAKES ME UNREASONABLY ANGRY.

>They always bring NANCY MOTHEREFFING ANNOYING VOICE BUTTHEADED GRACE IN TO TALK ABOUT THE MURDER STORIES AND THOSE ARE THE ONLY STORIES I ACTUALLY FOLLOW. I cannot stand Nancy Grace at all.

>So. Many. News. Anchors. Are. Obnoxious.

I can't stand it. I absolutely cannot stand it. It sends me into a fit of rage where I really just want to throw my chair at the screen and scream at all the obnoxious news anchors and tell them how fake they are and how dumb their news stories are and how I REALLY JUST WANT TO WATCH A MURDER CASE PLAY OUT WITHOUT NANCY GRACE'S FUCKING FACE.

IS THIS JUST ME?! PROBABLY.
