We've included them in polls for three years, and Disney has finally confirmed that they aren't joining the lineup. They have even confirmed that Moana won't join the lineup.
So...I'd say no, because they aren't really DPs. But it's a toss up, I suppose.
I feel like now that Disney's said for sure that they're not part of the DP franchise, we'd have to include characters like Princess Atta and Dot, Princess Giselle, Princess Eilonwy, and perhaps Kida since she's a queen if we continued to include Anna and Elsa.
I feel like we have to draw the line here personally but I still want to see what everybody here thinks.
Agree, it's kind of annoying with all the Frozen polls and such. We don't include ex. Kida as a Princess, so why Anna and Elsa? They're not official Princesses so they are not part of this spot.
The club is for fans of Disney Princesses. Not Official Disney Princesses, not the Disney Princess Franchise, but Disney Princesses. (Well, just "Disney Princess", if you want to get technical.) As long as they're Disney and either descended from or married to royalty, I see no reason why they shouldn't be included.
Personally, I think it's depends on whose ever doing the poll or countdown or whatever. If you want to add Anna and Elsa, add them. If you don't want to, then don't.
I totally agree with DarkSarcasm it'll be biased to just removed them because they are "overrated" in outside world or maybe in fanpop. It doesn't even matter if Disney said so, they said what is good for them and for their business no one can deny that they are Disney Princesses so it'd be not right to just remove them from spot instantly plus as anaswill said it should be upto user/ person creating poll whether they wanna include them or not.
And other princesses aren't included in poll because users didn't included them, so it'd be unfair to say that Anna and Elsa should be removed just because people didn't included other Princesses in picks.
^If that's the reasoning, then we should start adding Giselle, Esmeralda, Megara, Eilonwy, Jane Porter, Kidakagash, Wendy, Alice, Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, etc., etc. into the polls as well....just to be fair to all of the characters, and not just single out Anna and Elsa for the "honorary princess" category of esteem. If we institute a requirement that all of the Disney girls will be featured in polls in the club, exempt of a confirmed Disney royal background -- then I can see why adding in Anna and Elsa to every single princess poll makes sense and whatever. But I don't see other identified non-princess and still of royal heritage girls receive that preferential treatment--- only the Frozen girls are getting it. It's time to stop that double-standard in my opinion.
A princess is a non-reigning female member of a royal family. Anna and Elsa's parents were King and Queen, they were both princesses at the beginning of the movie. Why Disney has decided to leave Anna and Elsa out of the franchise is a mystery, but that doesn't make them commoners. They're still princesses.
It's not about being fair, it's about what constitutes a princess. I guess the real question is, are fanpoppers welcoming to all of Disney's princesses, or just the ones who are a part of the official Disney Princess franchise?
^My understanding was that this club was originally about the Disney Princess of the Official Lineup. That's why you don't see Giselle, Esmeralda, Kida, or Eilonwy. You should not see Anna or Elsa, nor Moana. Anna and Elsa fit into the Childhood Animated Movie Heroines Club or CAMH and the Childhood Animated Movie Characters Club. They even belong in the Walt Disney Characters Club, too. That's three clubs on Fanpop with Anna and Elsa in them. In my opinion, Disney has been firm. They don't need to be in the Official Disney Princess club, which is this club, because Anna and Elsa aren't girls who got "a coronation into the royal court at Disney World."
Esmerelda is not a princess, even though she was included in the official DP lineup for a while. I haven't seen either movie, but the Disney Wiki says that Kida and Eilonwy are both princesses.
Disney was going to have Giselle join the DP line-up as the first live-action princess, but abandoned their plan when they realized they'd have to pay Amy Adams for using her likeness. The Disney Wiki also says that Kida and Eilonwy probably weren't included in the official line-up because their movies weren't popular, therefore, did not make them billions. It's all about money. That's probably why Anna and Elsa didn't join either - they're worth more on their own.
There's Giselle and Kida and Eilonwy content here, and even a little Esmerelda, who is the only one you mentioned who isn't actually a princess.
Since there's no way to enforce it, fans can continue to use whichever girls they see as princesses. If you want to limit yourself to the franchise, that's fine. But the club itself doesn't specify, and I think that openness is a good thing.
I just wish all the royals were official. It would make things easier. But as it stands, they aren't official so no, I don't think we should include them on here regularly. Key word there is regularly because no matter what we do people will be talking about them, just as we sometimes talk about the other heroines on here. There's no real way to regulate it.
^But if Disney removed them from the lineup, they are not official princesses... and if you go by the royalty qualification, they're not any kind of princesses. Why does Merida deserved to be kicked out?
Honestly, I don't really mind if peoples here want to included them in polls or not. Why this is should be a problem, that hasn't solved yet in several years? I don't get it. It's their choice to included them or not. At least all peoples know who are the official princesses, and who are not.
@eternalbeauty: Why Merida have to be kicked? Just because she's Pixar?! If they removed her from the franchise because of that reason, that was very NONSENSE!
If they aren't going to join, I agree with leaving it up to the poster to choose whether or not to include them. Also, if I may ask, is there a link to where Disney announced this?
^Um. You'd have to contact the user connor3. He/she seems to be following Disney exec's activity much more closely than the rest of us. Anyway, here is what connor3 posted 25 days ago....

Hey guys, after rumors about Moana not joining, we finally have an 'official' statemant. according to article published on nytimes.com, disney stated Anna, Elsa, Elena and Moana won't join, instead focusing on their own franchises. Craig Gerber, elena's creator, also confirmed it now on twitter (some people also said Moana voice actress confirmed it as well at comic con?).

For what it's worth, I asked this exact same question just 3 months ago and it seemed that about half of the fan-base was against them in this spot and the other half didn't mind. Consensus seemed to be that the banner promotes just the Official ones and most would like to stick to that but don't mind too much if now and again the others are included.
So...I'd say no, because they aren't really DPs. But it's a toss up, I suppose.

That poll here: link
Also another note, I didn't see anyone bring up the "Disney Extended Princesses" club which has the officials plus the favorite un-officials. :)
