Hello everyone! I'm Veronica (a.k.a. ApplesauceDoctr :D), and hey, it's been a little while since I've written an article. It feels good to get back into the spirit of writing. :D
So, what have I today? As आप can see, I'll be analyzing the song "Reflection" from Disney's Mulan. I made a lyric video for it about a week पूर्व and realized just how deep the song is! However, in this analysis, I'll also be taking a look at the extended version of the song. It shows a different side of मूलन that...well, you'll see soon enough.

Alright then! Let's take a listen to Reflection!

Movie Version

Look at me
I will never pass for a perfect bride
या a perfect daughter
Can it be
I'm not meant to play this part?

From this, we can see that मूलन knows that she can't be what society expects her to be - that perfect चीनी मिटटी, चीनी मिट्टी के बरतन doll. It's just not going to happen, and as a result, she सवालों herself. If she's not that perfect bride या daughter, then what is she? Who is she supposed to be?

Now I see
That if I were truly to be myself
I would break my family's heart

This excerpt here makes me think of Elsa. And Hercules. All of these characters want to just be themselves and fit in, but it's not that easy. For Mulan, she wants to be herself, but not if it means disappointing her family. She truly loves and respects them and is willing to try to be what society expects of her in order to maintain a good family image. As we've discussed, though, she can't do this, thus bringing us to the chorus:

Who is that girl I see
Staring straight back at me?
Why is my reflection
Someone I don't know?

For some reason, I never really understood what मूलन meant द्वारा this, and here I am right now feeling like a complete dunce. xD
Whenever मूलन sees her reflection, she sees what she's trying to be - the "perfect चीनी मिटटी, चीनी मिट्टी के बरतन doll". आप know this द्वारा now. But she knows that's not who she is. She wants to be her true self while at the same time making her family proud. Of course, she feels that she can't be herself without giving the Fa family a bad name.

Somehow I cannot hide
Who I am, though I've tried
When will my reflection show
Who I am
Inside?

(That last line is repeated, द्वारा the way. ;D)
This basically re-establishes what she's already been saying. She hides her true self to try and fit society's expectations, yada yada. She awaits the day, if indeed there is a day, when she can be herself and not worry about dishonoring the family.

I'll bet (not really) you're thinking, "Wow, that's it? Short song." Indeed. It's a gorgeous song, but rather short. We'll now take a look at the extended version of the song. Why was the song trimmed? Let's find out!

Extended Version

Who is that perfect bride?
It's not me, though I've tried
When will my reflection show
Who I am
Inside?

The looking-into-the-mirrors bit should look familiar, as does this excerpt entirely. The only real way this contrasts with the पूर्व excerpt I showed is that instead of her admitting to hiding herself, here, it's और directly related to what just happened in the movie *cough cough Matchmaker cough*.
The अगला excerpt is where the contrast comes in.

How I pray
That a time will come, I can free myself
From their expectations

आप know how the movie version mainly focuses on her wanting to please her family? I mean, yeah, she does want to be accepted as herself, but only if she can do so in an "honorable" way.
That gets thrown off a bit here. This suggests that she wants to be devoid from society's expectations altogether in order to live the life she wants. Let's continue on to see where I'm going with this.

On that day
I'll discover someway to be myself
And to make my family proud

Wait, haven't we gone over this already? Yep, we sure have! No need to talk this over again. It's the next stanza we want to take a look at.

They want a docile lamb
No one knows who I am
Must there be a secret me
I'm forced to hide?

Alright, let's see. She's saying that society is basically like this: We don't know who आप are, and frankly, we don't care. But we expect आप to be perfect. Got that? For someone they hardly know, society's putting a huge weight on Mulan's shoulders, and she's not happy about this. From that last line, she doesn't seem too satisfied with being "forced to hide" herself.
This is the part that makes this extended version of the song seem questionable in respect to what we actually saw in the movie. It makes मूलन seem a bit और selfish. Sure, she brings up wanting to make her family proud, but the extended song primarily focuses on how she feels with these expectations. She's had it. She just wants to come right out and be herself without the tension of fitting into the role of the "docile lamb".

Must I pretend that I'm
Someone else for all time?
When will my reflection show
Who I am
Inside?

This excerpt makes my point much और clear. What makes the extended version and movie version similar is the fact that मूलन obviously wants to be herself. However, in the movie version, she seems mostly disappointed that her efforts to fit in don't work, and she hopes that she'll be able to make her family proud someday. Here, though, मूलन seems कड़वा about the fact that society has set these expectations on her. She's sick and tired of pretending to be someone she's not.

So, let's quickly compare and contrast the two. :D

Both Versions:
- मूलन wants to be herself
- मूलन wants to make her family proud

Extended Version:
- Emphasis on wanting personal freedom from society's wishes
- कड़वा about these aforementioned wishes
- कड़वा about hiding herself

Final Cut:
- Mostly just emphasis on her desire to be herself; no detectable bitterness

And there आप have it! I hope आप enjoyed पढ़ना this, as I had a ton of fun लेखन it. :) आप may want to check out my link song analysis of "If आप Can Dream" from a while back.
I'll bet that आप either a) are going to listen to the extended song right now या b) already have, haha. :D
Well, that about wraps things up! Thanks so much for reading! Adios!

I thought it would be a cute idea to do an लेख with something positive about each of the डिज़्नी Princesses in the style of a high school yearbook. Since I am लेखन this from my opinion, I have labeled them with traits that I find the most positive in a princess/female.

1. Snow White- Most Caring & Kind: Snow White wouldn't hurt a fly. She is so kind and caring that she doesn't even understand why the जानवर were trying to attack the evil क्वीन disguised as an old woman. "With a smile and a song" it is clear that Snow White is very nurturing. She immediately takes to the dwarves like...

"The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of them all."
So while there are a lot of great things that are pointed out about the movie Mulan, there are also things that I haven't seen pointed out yet so I wanted to share.

1. Realistic Representation of Culture: I प्यार that it is not over-Americanized and mostly stays true to Chinese and Asian culture. The most American part of the film is the fact that she thinks she can take a man's place in the army. That and Grandmother Fa's टिप्पणियाँ in general. Other than that, the movie is pretty accurate to her culture. I find this important because I don't understand the point of दिखा रहा है a different culture...

Before anything, i have to say that my english is pretty bad so they will be some spelling mistakes here
Not trying to critic anything , oh and please this is an idea that came to my mind , but if anyone in फैन्पॉप already had done something similar, please let me know so i can erase it

Snow white: while, her beauty was a huge point in the movie , the main thing that made her stepmother hate her , if snow wouldn't beautiful, there is no reason why made her a servant या trying to kill her , sure she would still keeping her inner beauty but क्वीन grimhilde doesn't seem to mind about that

I apologize in advance if I am being harsh, I hate to get all critical about hair but I do it because there's really not that much to say and I'd rather fill in the blank spaces. Anyway, enjoy!

11. Beast
Beast's doesn't even look like hair, और like फर या a greaseball. Which makes sense since he's been an animal for most of the movie... anyway moving on. I don't mind the length at all, it's majestic. Although I still think his hair is awful संपूर्ण, कुल मिलाकर and rightfully deserves last place on my list.

10. Charming
Sequel या original, his hair looks like plastic. People criticize his looks...

This is my ranking of the princess films. These are my personal opinions. It is okay if आप don't agree with my सूची but please no rude comments.

12. Brave

I hate this movie. I haven't seen it in 3 years and I don't want to see it again. I think डिज़्नी as dimitri put it, was trying to hard to please radical feminists that hate डिज़्नी princesses. Merida is so rude bratty and obnoxious I just want to पंच her in the face. Moving on.

11. Frozen

Another डिज़्नी movie I can't stand. Like with Brave, I think डिज़्नी was trying to hard to be progressive. The characters are extremely annoying and the soundtrack...

As everyone walked into the cool night air, मूलन found the strength to talk about her heartbreaking experience. "We told our फ्रेंड्स and family. We didn't want to tell anybody else." she said. "We should've कहा something to आप guys alot sooner." Shang replied. "You waited until the time was right." Pocahontas consoled. "I'm glad we took the tots with us. They've made this walk even और enjoyable." John added. Mace and Ping were amazed at the nature all around them. Their faces lit up as they saw trees ans riverbends.

As the gang got near the infamous cliff Pocahontas loved going to, Mulan,...

Now that I am done with school I can finally write my ranking of the डिज़्नी Princesses. These are just my personal opinions. It is ok if आप disagree with my सूची but please no rude comments.

13. Merida

I really can't stand Merida. I haven't been ब्रेव in 3 years but I don't want to see it again. I think she is rude, bratty, & obnoxious. Moving on.

12. Elsa

I'm not an Elsa fan. I don't find her very likeable. She just irritates me. I don't really know what else to say.

11. Anna

I like her better than Else no doubt but she doesn't do much for me. I hated the line she when she कहा she is gassy....

Last time I wrote about songs that I thought suited Mulan, today I'll write about songs that I think सूट्स Pocahontas, hope you'll like this लेख :)

link - Bon Jovi
Totally सूट्स her, she does crazy things in the movie and the people in her movie judge her because of that

link - Justin Timberlake
This song describes Pocahontas' and John Smith's relationship perfectly well (even though the song is quite long)

link - Katy Perry
Like the पूर्व song it describes Pocahontas' and John Smith's relationship quite well, not as great as the पूर्व one, but still it sort of suits

link - Michael Jackson...
