BelleRose829 O_O Ok... Your reasoning for this is? Well this IS Disney, not just some free-sex throwing movie. Her attitude would actually improve, in my opinion. If I explained my comment would be longer than you article actually. Keeping in mind though Disney can produce some dark movies ie Black cauldron, Hunchback of Notre dame, etc. I don't think they would even have considered a harem.

manu962 Yeah, that's why I always found it weird that the Sultan had no wife and that Jasmine was his only child. Sultans at that time would die to have sons. But we all know that it would be inappropriate for Disney to do that. And yes, Jasmine would be really different. And Jafar would have no chance to be Sultan because one of the sons is the one that become the next Sultan not the son-in-law.

MadameLee @Belle Rose um Disney *has* hinted weirdo stuff like "wohoo" before aka black-out screens in both L&tT (Lady&the Tramp) and again in The Lion King. Then there's the fact three girls shown in Aladdin they're called HAREM BALCONY GIRLS. Both in "One Jump Ahead" and also "Prince Ali" (when they're seen on the balcony)

Tygers_Eye Would you mind explaining what a harem means in this context, and how it would affect Jasmine? We modern Western people think of harems as brothels, but as far as I know harems weren't necessarily brothels or an area to keep many wives and concubines. A harem was literally a "sacred place," the area where the women of the house (and female slaves and eunuchs) lived, where men were not supposed to enter. It could include the sultan's mother, wife or wives, daughters, female relatives, and the female slaves and eunuchs to serve and guard them. Since harems were a spaces only for women, I'm not sure I understand how you're trying to argue it would change Jasmine. Are you trying to argue she would feel even more bitter by the patriarchal system if she was only allowed to live in the "women's segregated section" of the palace? Or that she would have been bitter from being raised around her father's other wives and concubines? Or that she would have been in danger being surrounded by many women vying for power, who would view her as a political tool to use or rival to discard? Or that if she was raised around female relatives and servants, she might be more calm since she would have other positive female role models and companions instead of being (it seems) a lone female running around in the male patriarchal palace?

324anna Well, I really don't see the purpose of this article. Did you write it to say that IF Sultan had a harem, Jasmine would be different? Because, if you wrote it just to say that, I don't know, it's just that, well, Sultan didn't have a harem, so what's the point of discussing about that? I mean, if Aurora was raised by her parents and not by her aunts, she would be different too, if Ariel'm mother hadn't lived, Ariel and Triton and generally the whole movie would be different. I just don't see the point of writing an article about an "if", especially when you don't even explain, like Tygers_Eye said, how it would affect Jasmine. Sorry if that came across as rude, maybe I just don't understand what do you mean.

MadameLee From my historical research- harems in both China and in places like India (I believe Aladdin is set) the ruler's wives/concubines if more then one of them had sons are very competitive. Since they would be at each other's throats trying to kill each other or the wife/person above them's sons in order for their own son to succed. So that Jasmine could in a sense 1)become competitive herself due to being around other competitive women and also 2)she could have been posioned accidently several times in her life with each one increasing her risk of dying.
