Can the अवतार have kids?

I heard that if the अवतार has kids he loses his powers, but then again Zukko's grandfather was an अवतार right? So how does that work out?

Korra is not Aang's kid. Aang's kid isTenzin(boy), who will be helping Korra in her journey
