Gen717 I was thinking this too. They've made a point of showing Arthur carrying Gwen to bed a couple of times. As much as they could with this family show, they've hinted at a very active loving, sex-life for these two. An heir is certainly a great possibility, IMO.

buzzy31bee we all know Arthur will presumably die tomorrow, but i certainly wasn't expecting what happened in the first part. who's to say she needs a husband anyway; she can stand on her own two feet she's done it before she can do it again. as earlier comments have said they do put a slight emphasis on Arthur carrying her to the bed, she could be pregnant.

Bonne-Bell Well, Gwen actually has a right and a claim to the throne by marriage. The only way that she would have to give up the throne is if Uther had another sibling with children and we already know that, that's not the case. The kingdom will be at threat for invasion after Arthur dies but that would still be case even if Gwen was pregnant. When a king dies, leaving only a queen and small children, that's what normally happens. Even Queen Annis is not free from that and she's a noble. If the people of Camelot continue to side with Gwen and she maintains control over the knights, she will be able to hold off invaders and keep the throne. And as time goes on, Camelot will strengthen again and more people will recognize her rightful claim so the best chances that she'll have of keeping the throne. Also even if Merlin leaves, I'm sure that he's not going to abandon Gwen and Camelot. Gwen will still be able to call on him for help when she needs it and I'm sure that he'll come running. Albion is not that big so he'll never be too far away.

lailastar The sadness of it all is history has it that Camelot fell after Arthur's death. This is another reason why I did not want Arthur to die because it sets Gwen up to be alone for the rest of her life and possible failure for Camelot. As usual TPTB did not think of Guinevere in all this, they only focused on Merlin and Arthur and left Gwen as usual to a lonely fate. I don't think Guinevere will ever marry another man, it will only be Arthur for her, I see Leon only as the captain of her knights, like a brother. I was afraid of this, that whatever the twist this finale has to offer, Gwen will be left behind and alone. My heart breaks for her, too young to take her life ( Arthur ) away from her. Yes she looks all regal, sitting on the throne with her crown but how long will she be allowed to continue to rule and what a lonely life it will be for her. I always feel sorry for her the most because it is the living that is left behind to continue with the pain and loneliness after death has occur. ( or whatever they have plan for Arthur, maybe a trip in the future ) whatever the result Guinevere will still be left behind and alone.

EPaws Yes but that is how the story goes. Be it nunnery or dying of a broken heart, eventually to join him in the hereafter. That aspect of the lore remains. You have to accept this. That is what makes all of this epic and memorable and the point of the story is the ONCE and FUTURES. If you get the point of the story, it is eternal and rather brilliant.

EPaws Try to remember that Artur Pendraig and his wife Gwenyfar are SYMBOLS....of something far greater...UNCONDITIONALLY, don't get lost in the trivial minutia.

leona21 I never want this to happen but someone said to me that the twist could be that Gwen dies and it is Arthur that is left to rule Camelot, hence it's eventual fall. Not buying that one though because surely it wouldn't make sense!! Anyway, what ever the twist I hope it is one we are all happy with.

Lucerne28 Bonne Bell, I am not disputing Gwen’s right to the throne through marriage; the question is if she has the might/power to keep the crown? The Camelot army would have suffered a lot of damage due to the war, thus leaving the country vulnerable. Gwen is not of noble blood, and thus does not have a family with any might who would come to her aid should anyone want to invade Camelot. Camelot is only as strong as its army and its monarch. Family ties, and treaties are factors that help a kingdom in its strength. Should Arthur die during the battle of Camlann, the kingdom will be left in an extremely venerable position, and thus ripe for the picking since there is nothing preventing other kingdom from invading. Not loyalty, not filial ties, nothing. That is why I questioned how long Gwen would be able to hold on to the kingdom.

buzzy31bee Lucerne28 the treaties would not automatically disappear when Arthur dies (assuming he does) the other regions of Albion that have made peace treaties with Camelot made the treaties with Arthur, Guinevere and Camelot not Arthur. she is now technically of noble blood because she married Arthur. anyway she wouldn't be ruling alone, she'd have Merlin, Gaius, all the knights and the people of Camelot to help her

lailastar I expect Kilgarrah to make an appearance in the heat of battle, hopefully this is not his last battle but he is getting weaker and seems to be ready to meet death. Morgana is obviously defeated because tomorrows episode she is sitting on that stone throne looking like something the cat dragged in, the hag that she is. Funny she always hated Gwen because of the throne. Yet there is Gwen sitting on Camelots throne with her crown and Morgana still surrounded by ruin and rags, guess that foreseeing dream she had in Season 3 did come true.

Bonne-Bell @Lucerne: I didn't think that you were disputing Gwen's claim to the throne. Perhaps, I wasn't clear enough, I was on my way out when I wrote that so I kind of rushed through it. What I'm saying is that even without a blood tie to the throne, she might still have allies who'll support her cause because of her claim by marriage. New treaties can also be signed. I don't see Annis and Rodor refusing to join forces with her because she's a former servant. Camelot is also a fortified city which isn't easy to invade so even with the army weakened from Camlann they won't be sitting ducks. No rag tag group of warlords has a prayer of taking over Camelot so that will give Gwen time to rebuild the army. And while she doesn't have a noble family that can back her, she does have friends who are of noble blood and can use them to back her. Leon is of noble blood, he's already told her that he'll side with her should Arthur die and there might very well be other knights from noble families who will side with her and use the might of their families for her cause. Another thing that she has working in her favour is the fact that Camelot allows none nobles to become knights. I'm pretty sure that if Gwen ever put out the call for more knights, every commonor parent would enlist their son because that's a position that's very coveted. And on top of that she'll have Merlin, plus the Druids and other people with magic if she lifts that ban on magic which I'm sure she will. Merlin also has ultimate control over Aithusa so even with Kilgarrah dead, Gwen will still have an ally with a growing dragon which in it's prime can lay entire armies to waste. The fact that Gwen also has a powerful sorcerer for a friend might also cause people to think twice before trying to invade her land. It won't be easy but I think she can do it. She might not have the noble family to back her but she also has a lot of other things in her corner.

Rosebull  About the future of Gwen..If Arthur dies I'm pretty sure, Gwen will not marry again. But I do believe very possible that...Like mostly of you said, Sir Leon will undoubtedly be her most loyal knight and I think..that could be the reason of the Promotional Photos Together!

HMGwen No matter how this shakes out, Morgana get MAJOR karma with Gwen on the throne, and Morgana wallowing in misery and pain. Morgana plotted to destroy Gwen, but in the end it blew up in her face. Morgana's forces probably abandoned her when Emyrs shows up. Serves Morgana right. As for Gwen not being from a noble family, well Arthur had Agravaine who is part of the powerful de Bois family and it didn't do Arthur a lot of good.

leona21 Arthur made many allies so even if he did die (which I hope not) then Gwen will have backing from other kingdoms I'm sure. In fact Camelot will be the one of the most powerful kingdoms if Morgana is defeated.
