Bethany Markowski

Eleven-year-old Bethany Markowski was last seen on March 4, 2001 in Jackson, Tennessee.

At the time of her disappearance, Bethany's parents, Larry and Johnie Jo Markowski separated in 2001. She lived with Johnie Jo in Nashville, Tennessee and spent several days with Larry at his home in Gleason, Tennessee in early March 2001.

On the afternoon of March 4th, Bethany and Larry were scheduled to meet Johnie Jo at the Waverly, Tennessee exit off of Interstate 40. The two of them spent part of the day in Little Rock, Arkansas and drove back to Tennessee. They stopped at the Old Hickory Mall at approximately 3:30 p.m. Larry told the police that Bethany went into the mall by herself while he slept in the car. When he woke up an hour later, he looked for Bethany in the mall and called the police at 5:15 p.m. when he was unable to find her.

Investigators said that Bethany wasn't seen on the security camera videotapes and there was no proof that she actually entered the mall. Although Larry has stated that he had nothing to do with Bethany's disappearance, the police have questioned his version of what happened.

Several witnesses saw Bethany being accompanied by an unidentified Caucasian female who looked unkempt and appeared to have been suffering from a hangover. A month after she went missing, the woman tried to enroll Bethany in a southeastern Tennessee school and was later observed to be boarding a bus with her.

The police haven't ruled out Bethany's parents as suspects in her disappearance, but they think that it's possible that she was abducted by a stranger.
