Lukas was given good medical attention when his dad got to the town and then stayed in that town for three years then Lukas and his father left that town and went into the forest. In the forest he was taught how to cut down trees, cook, do first-aid, how to know what plants and berries are edible and which are not. Every time the game comes on, they go to the nearest town. He now spends his days waiting to get reaped, because he knows he will despite his father's efforts to keep him thinking good about the reaping trying to make him think he won't get reaped. He is always depressed around the time of the games because the death of all the children dying reminds him of how his mom died and how he never could get the time to know her.
