TV Ratings: 'The Flash' Premiere Gives CW a 5-Year Best

The \'Arrow\' spinoff is the network\'s biggest launch since \'The Vampire Diaries\'

Don't expect the wave of comic book-inspired TV series to slow down any time soon — at least at the CW. Two years after the successful launch of Arrow, the network premiered spinoff

on Tuesday night. It marked the CW's highest-rated opener since

4.54 million viewers and a 1.8 rating with adults 18-49. Both mark premiere highs since

' September 2009 bow. It's even more impressive when looking at the fact that

opened the night, leading into the tenth season of Supernatural (steady and strong for the CW with a 1.2 in the demo). For the 8 p.m. hour, the CW easily outrated ABC's freshman comedies and Fox's animation encores among adults 18-49.

the highest-rated series of the night with a 2.6 rating among adults 18-49 on CBS. Steady

(down two-tenths for a 1.6 showing with adults) followed. Still, NBC's The Voice (2.4 adults) and a steady Chicago Fire (2.1 adults) were both enough to give the network a demo victory.

Elsewhere, those ABC comedies tumbled in their second outings — quickly entering the danger zone.

was off 31 percent for a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49, while Manhattan Love Story spilled 40 percent to just a 0.9 rating. The night also marked a live-plus-same day low for Agents of SHIELD, down two-tenths of a point to a 1.6 rating in the key demo. Forever (1.3 adults) was steady with last week.

(1.3 adults) was the night's top comedy for Fox (and broadcast).
