I listen to a little of gothic metal, and I like Halloween music like Midnight Syndicate and Nox Arcana (not sure if it's actually gothic). However, most of the music I listen to is symphonic metal, which is mistaken for gothic music.

^^ Same here. I would count Nox Arcana. I love Symphonic metal the most, I think the reason they get mixed up is because it takes elements of gothic, classical, folk, etc music. I wouldn't call WT or Amaranth gothic. Though I think some Nightwish and WT songs could be classified as so; but yeah, I agree they are part of their own genre.
