). Production will begin in Atlanta on August 19th.
is a hard-hitting drama that revolves around a local cop (Henderson) struggling to keep his family together while simultaneously policing two clashing communities: the small town where he grew up and the neighboring mountains, home of a Native American tribe.  After a terrible tragedy and coverup occurs involving the cop’s wife (Nicholson), an unholy alliance is forged between the cop and Phillip Kopus (Momoa), a dangerous member of the tribe that will come back to haunt all involved.
As was previously announced, THE RED ROAD has been picked up for six one-hour episodes and hails from acclaimed writer Aaron Guzikowski (
) and veteran producer Sarah Condon (“Bored to Death”)
 The series will be executive produced by Guzikowski and Condon, and Bridget Carpenter (“Friday Night Lights,”
“Parenthood”) will serve as executive producer and showrunner. Award winning director James Gray (
) will direct the first episode.  THE RED ROAD is Sundance Channel’s second wholly owned original scripted series; its first was the acclaimed RECTIFY, which returns for a second season in 2014.
Sundance Channel recently received a record ten Primetime Emmy® nominations for its original scripted miniseries TOP OF THE LAKE and RESTLESS.
EXCLUSIVE: The former Law And Order: Criminal Intent star has joined the John Wells-directed film. In August: Osage County Julianne Nicholson will play Ivy Weston, one of the sisters to Julia Robert’s Barbara in the adaptation of Tracy Letts’ Oklahoma family clan play. Ivy is the middle daughter to Violet, played by Meryl Streep. Ivy stayed in Oklahoma and teaches at a local college and is having a secret affair with a man she plans to move to New York with. Nicholson worked with Wells before on the CBS series Presidio Med back in 2002-2003. The actress has appeared recently on CBS’ The Good Wife and on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. Juliette Lewis plays the youngest daughter Karen in the sibling trio in August: Osage County. Ewan McGregor and Dermot Mulroney are also in the film, as is Abigail Breslin who plays Barbara’s daughter, Jean. Margo Martindale is in the film too as Violet’s sister Mattie Fae. George Clooney and Grant Heslov are producing along with Jean Doumanian, Steve Traxler and Claire Rudnick Polstein. The Weinstein Co. is financing and distributing August: Osage County.
