First of all, I apologize that I didn't see this and respond when the answer request was new.

Second, there is a lot of information about high school exit exams, including a lot of studies and position papers, but generally these take the benefits of high school exit exams as given. Rather than promoting the idea of exit exams, they (mostly) present ideas on how to improve the results of high school exit exams. For instance: link

Most of the positive information I found - and it wasn't much - was in the form of general summaries of the purported benefits of exit exams, such as link

The vast majority of information available online is critical of exit examinations, and in many cases actively against the practice. In general, these reflected research and were moderately well-documented. In contrast, I could find no research papers that supported the general claims of benefit to restricting high school graduation with an exit exam requirement. This may reflect the nature of the claims, which are largely untestable. For instance, what are the negative effects of having someone without "basic math and English skills" (what the exit exams are meant to test) graduate from high school, and how do they compare to the negative effects of keeping them in high school? Such comparisons are और in the nature of judgment calls, rather than testable in any scientifically sound/empirically measurable fashion. The closest one might do is comparative polling of students who graduated without exit exams and students who did not graduate for failing exit exams. Also, do students who are held back but then eventually pass the exit exam दिखाना a statistically significant difference in quality of life versus students who passed without basic math and English skills (for instance, those who drop out of high school)? I was unable to find any such studies. I apologize.
