1 on 1 वाद-विवाद tips?

I'll be going to this वाद-विवाद contest and maybe I also have to do a 1 on 1 debate. But I really really suck at it!

Does anyone have any tips for me what to do when I'm out of things to say?

1) Research the topic your debating on, and memorise some good, ACCURATE, solid statistics. (EG- The percentage of woman who regret a abortion, The likelihood of a incest baby being born unhealthy etc). Remember these well, and use them in the debate. Evidence and facts to back up your statement are crucial. If आप have trouble remembering statistics, jot them down on a flash-card.

2) Use formal language. Your arguement's will be taken और seriously if they do not contain slang, insults या any offence.

3) Listen to your opponent, and let him finish his/her point before contradicting it. Then, आप can be और clear on what has been said, and what आप should say back.

4) Have eye contact between आप and your opponent. If आप find yourself staring at your shoes rather than the person opposite you, they'll be problem.

5) Practise. A lot.

It's less about the facts and statistics आप memorize and और about the sources आप got those facts and statistics from. A very easy way to discredit someone who says "___% of women who get abortions regret the choice" is to reply "What's your source?" If the person can't recall, that's one thing - it makes it look like आप just made it up. What's worse, if आप do recall, and it wasn't a valid source, it's easy to disregard such statistics. Get your information from reputable known sources, preferably unbiased, but bias sources can also be reputable. On another note, if a scary या strange statistic/fact pops up in your opponant's argument, ask them for their source. Sources are everything.
