I do believe Barnabas felt in his heart that it was Josette Dupres in the 1790's...but thru out time, there is just something special about Angelique--you have to admire her persistence.

I thought Victoria Winters was perfect for Barnabas. Julia was such a jerk, Angelique was evil, and Josette... well, she was dead. It made me sad that Barnabas/Vicky didn't happen, but oh well.

There was just something between them, especially as the show got farther along.

I'm a Barnabas and Julia shipper from way back, and I've always read that the show was supposed to wrap with them finally getting together but the cancellation notice came sooner than was expected. But aside from that, there was just such a deep connection between them that I find their scenes fascinating to this day.

I agree, Julia was his soulmate, not his first love which was Josette. Angelique was a fling that wouldn't let go. I don't understand the "Julia was a jerk" comment at all.

I always felt Julia was his soulmate. In my opinion, his relationships with the other women were superficial. With Julia we saw him as he really was; their relationship was real. He and Julia had their ups and downs. But they choose to stay together and become even closer as time went on. I always felt he loved her but was afraid of that love because the curse stated "anyone who loves you will die". Julia meant too much to risk anything happening to her.

Josette because she was his first love in the 18th century. She was the kind of lady he was taught to want, love and respect.

Julia. No offense against Josette who was probably his first real love, but she was long gone. Angelique and her Fatal Attraction routine just creeped me out. I loved how Barnabas and Julia's relationship evolved over time and how vital she became in his life. I'm certain they would have ended up together had the show continued a tad longer.

Doctor Hoffman because the chemisty between them was real. I think Barnabas intially rejected her because she was older and she was modern. I think Barnabas should have ended up marrying either Julia or Maggie. I think underneath it all, Barnabas truly loved Julia and in one episode admitted he cared for Julia more than he appeared.

I picked Julia because I think what Barnabas shared with her was his most real relationship. He was himself with her, flaws and all, and didn't play any games with her or pretend to be something that he wasn't. I loved the dynamic between Barnabas and Julia and how important she became to him as the show progressed. I definitely feel that he loved her and that they would have been together in the end.

Julia was his soulmate. She loved him. As the series progressed, he cared deeply for her but I'm not sure if Barnabas thought of her romantically.

As sweet and smart as Julia was she was too good for Barnabas. He was a jerk to her most of the time and I agree with so many above that he really was not into her sexually or romantically. He was terrified of Angelique who stalked him and tried to force him to love her, she never got tired of chasing him, it seems.

My pick is Julia. Josette was a sweet girl but there didn't seem much to her. Angelique had more than a few screws loose. Creepy. The Josette clones, Maggie, Rachel, Kitty, even Vicki were just stand-ins for the girl Barnabas lost so long ago. And Roxanne, frankly, reminded me of a younger, dumbed down version of Julia. lol. At any rate, I loved how Barnabas and Julia's relationship changed and evolved over the years into such caring and devotion. I will always believe that if the show had continued a while longer, Barnabas would have realized that his devotion to Julia was really love. It seems so obvious to me whenever I watch the DVDs.

Angelique? He hated her! She was constantly pursuing him. Julia was always saving his ass from her and others.

Since both men will live forever they will eventually realize their bond and be soul mates.

Why is Quentin on here? Niether one of them was gay or bi. ???

Poor Julia! She was one of the strongest female leads on the show and the majority here want to saddle her with a "soulmate" who wasn't even attracted to the likes of her? She deserves better than Barnabas.

I truly believe that Barnabas had feelings for Julia that he couldn't, for whatever reason, articulate. Particularly later on. I love to watch the dynamic between them. Chemistry in spades!

Barnabas had the most chemistry with Angelique. Every time these 2 were together and exchanged barbs the audience payed attention because sparks flew, tensions rose, passions flared. They were intellectually equal, physically the most stunning, emotionally the most intense, even their voice tones complemented each other. Angelique did do a lot for him over time... and she was completely in love with him eternally. Should have done a grand redemption arc for her, resulting in some passionate love scenes for she and Barnabas... they would have melted all the TV screens. Best cast characters on that show.

I'll always believe it was Julia. Each time I watch, I am enthralled with the chemistry between Barnabas and Julia and it completely draws me in. Intellectually, Julia was somewhat smarter than Barnabas, but she always had his back and he would have done anything for her. An online friend of mine calls them a natural couple and think that's very true. There's nothing forced about their relationship. Even when they are arguing, They just fit.
