for those of you who don't know, st nick day is a dutch holiday, and i actually don't know to much about it :) but my grandparents are part dutch so we celebrate it. there's actually not much to do except put our shoes out by the door and the next morning have them be stuffed with candy and other stuff you would usually get in your stocking. i always put out my biggest shoes :)

When I was young we always had a little party for St. Nicholas Day. No parties now, but I still honor the day.

Here he's called sinterklaas. I live in Holland so I do celebrate it. But we don't put our shoes by the door anymore. When I was little we did though. We put our shoes at the door with a carot or a bowl of water or something with it for St. Nicks horse and in the morning there would be presents and pepernoten.

It's kind of like when your a kid believing in santa claus. The story about him somehwat, is that he comes from spain a week or something before december 5 with a boat filed with presents he gives to kids with the help of zwarte pieten on the night of december 5 and when you've been good you got presents but if you were bad you got taken to spain in the bag of sinterklaas.

It is polish holiday, too. Traditionally it's the time when Saint Mikolaj brings the presents (not at Christmas). But the tradition is mostly gone and we are now Americanized with the Santa grandpa living in the North Pole. Shame for tradition.
