Artemis' POV
I open my eyes to see Nikki admiring my bow and quiver. I'm glad she's my room mate. "You like archery?" I ask sitting up in my bed. She looks over at me. I know why she chose the hero name Sapphira. It's because her eyes are the purest, brightest shade of sapphire. "Yes. I'm an archer." she जवाब me.
"Great!" I say. "Now there are two archers on this team." Nikki smiles. "So how long have आप and Wally been together?" she asks.
I smile. It feels like forever.
"A while." I answer. "How long have आप liked Luper?"
Nikki blushes immediately. "For a while." she जवाब shyly. I laugh. "Well, let's get ready. I can't wait to find out what our mission is."
"Me either." she agrees.
"Team your mission is going to be dangerous." बैटमैन announces. "Not only because of the objective, but because आप are also bringing three lesser experienced हीरोस along." I shift my gaze to Nikki, who is now dressed as Sapphira, Diamond, who is now Kit, and Jason, dressed as Luper.
I see Nikki narrow her eyes and I interject. "Batman, they aren't lesser experienced. They are just new additions to the team and need time to get use to the way we do things." The three smile at me and I hold Batman's gaze evenly.
Wally nudges me and Robin shoots me a look. "Don't challenge him." Wally whispers. I narrow my eyes. "Artemis." बैटमैन says icily. "Yes Batman?" I ask.
"You're a fighter. And a good one too."
There is silence. Did he just compliment me?
"Thanks." I say sheepishly, but then pride swells in my chest. I'm a fighter. I whisper. Nikki and Diamond smile at me and nod their heads in approval.
"The mission," बैटमैन continues. "Requires आप to head to the Amazon. आप will be looking for this gemstone." He pulls up an image on a holographic computer.
"Diniomenium." Robin and Kaldur say simultaneously.
"Diniomenium?" I repeat confused. बैटमैन nods. "Yes, Diniomenium. It has been found in Atlantis but also a very large supply in the Amazon."
"What's so important about the stone?" asks Jason. "It's become interest to some villains." बैटमैन replies.
"Poison Ivy and the Joker?" asks Rocket, glancing at Robin. He nods. "Yes. They seem to प्यार working with gemstones and plants.
I stifle a laugh. "Alright so, assigning partners?" बैटमैन glances at the group. "Superboy and Miss Martian. Aqualad and Rocket. Robin and Zatanna. Sapphira and Luper. Kid Flash and yourself. Kit, आप will be with Robin as well."
I glance over at Kit and I see her smile.
"Should we get going?" asks Nikki, smiling at her partner. "Yes. Be careful." बैटमैन says, dismissing us with a wave of his hand.
Wally pulls me aside once we're near the BioShip.
"Artemis, I see आप are becoming attached to Nikki." he says. "Yeah, I am." I answer slowly. "Is that a bad thing?"
He looks at me. "I don't trust her." Wally whispers. "Jason has told me some stuff about her." I roll my eyes. "If she has a secretive past, she'll tell me when she's ready. She is like me in और ways than one." I say steely and walk away.
