Note: There are spoilers for the two La Corda d’Oro series.

No. 6—I had tried three ऐनीमे and दिया up on them after one या two episodes. Finally, I tried No. 6’s first episode. It passed the test. Then I looked it up on ऐनीमे News Network’s encyclopedia and found out it was “yaoi”. If आप know me, आप know I shy away from याओइ and shonen-ai, although I had previously watched The Betrayal Knows My Name and found that just fine. I was tired of not being able to find a new anime, so I decided to take my chances with No. 6. It probably wouldn’t get too explicit, now would it?
No, it didn’t get too explicit. A couple of modest kisses and a dance scene were all. I’m not even sure the protagonists, the idealistic Shion and the cynical “Rat”, were gay, just that they shared a special, intense relationship.
Oh, and the show’s not just about their friendship/romance. There’s this totalitarian city in a dystopian future called simply “No. 6”. It’s being attacked द्वारा killer bees. Shion wants to develop a serum to fight the bees. चूहा just wants to see the horrid city fall apart. Then Shion’s old friend, a girl, Safu, who loves him, is imprisoned for doubts against the state. Shion and चूहा put aside their differences on an attempt to rescue her.
Overall, this was a decent series, and I don’t regret watching it.

Special A—In a huge conservatory, seven spoiled but sweet students meet. They are the class known as Special A. There’s Akira, the girl always on hand to make her classmates चाय and pastries. She seems interested in girls, but she’s really in प्यार with a certain boy. Tadashi is handsome, goofy, and rides a motorcycle. Megumi writes down what she wants to say because she is saving her voice for “singing”. Her twin brother, Jun, has a “dark” secret. Ryuu takes care of the twins and a menagerie of animals. Then there’s Kei and Hikari, who have been competing at everything since they were children. Hikari is tired of always coming in सेकंड place, but little does she know that Kei is in प्यार with her.
There are a few other important characters. Yahiro is a rich kid who uses his power to manipulate people—but is he really all that bad? Sakura chases (literally) after Jun. Aoi is a young man who claims to have Kei’s best interests at heart—even if that means tearing Kei away from his friends. There’s also—count ‘em—two bratty younger brothers.
I have a new ऐनीमे to add to my favorites’ collection! I found this दिखाना to be light, funny, and full of camaraderie and romance. Even Jun’s dark secret is और humorous than truly dark. Things really pick up in the सेकंड half. I finally learned everyone’s name, and characters who were previously in the background got their chance to shine in the spotlight.

La Corda d’Oro: Primo Passo: This is a fairy tale of sorts—there are no princesses, but there is a fairy named Lili. Lili loves संगीत and wishes for there to be a musical competition. He (she?) gives a girl—the only student who can see him—a magical violin “that anyone can play”. So Kohoko and another shy girl, Fuyumi, are entered in the contest, along with five handsome boys--five boys who will all share magical moments with Kohoko.
    These are the five boys:
Yunoki: He has long, purple hair and plays the flute. He is very लोकप्रिय amongst the girl students, but he is two-faced.
Shimizu: He plays the cello—and plays, and plays, until dawn breaks. For this reason he is always sleepy. He looks a lot like Daisuke from “Heat Guy J”.
Tsuchiura—He plays the piano, and because he had tried to keep that a secret, is entered late into the competition. He has short hair and broad shoulders.
Tsukimori—He is another violin player, but unlike Kohoko, he knows what he is doing. He is the son of famous musicians. Ice cold, he can make the word “please” sound like a curse. He has short, blue hair.
Hihara—Hihara is my प्रिय of the bunch. He plays the trumpet. His green hair is a bit shaggy. He is friendly and cheerful, although when he messes up a musical selection he gets depressed.
At first, I didn’t care which of the boys Kohoko chose. Even though I leaned towards Hihara, I thought she would end up with Tsuchiura. आप know what? It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter who wins the competition. They don’t say. I guess they don’t want anyone’s feelings to get hurt.
Then they had a bonus summer vacation episode, and a two part sequel “Segundo Passo”. A sixth boy, Aoi, comes on the scene, और romantically aggressive than the original five boys. I thought for sure he was going to sweep Kohoko off her feet, and I wasn’t feeling good about that, but Kohoko doesn’t commit to him either. What do I think will happen? I think Kohoko will swear herself to celibacy rather than hurt any of these boys who mean so much to her.
A few odds and ends: I normally don’t like tournament anime, but I found myself getting into this one after a few episodes.
You learn a bit about classical music.
There sure is a lot of use of honorifics in this anime.
And there sure are a lot of phrases thrown around repeatedly, like “I’ll do my best!” It’s a bit annoying.
The playing of musical instruments is animated with high quality.
Lili is an idiot, though I don’t think we’re supposed to think of him that way. He burdens Kahoko with the magical violin, not telling her all the rules. She is filled with guilt and angst over using magic when the other participants have practiced so hard for years.

La Corda d’Oro: Blue Sky: This is a sequel to La Corda d’Oro: Primo Passo, but with a whole new set of characters (but watch for cameos द्वारा some of the cast of Primo Passo). The stakes are higher, too. Instead of a contest held द्वारा just one school, schools from all over जापान compete to be number one in the nation.
Our heroine this time is Kanade, who can play violin without assistance from any fairies. She and her grumpy childhood friend, Kyoya, are recruited to play on Seiso Academy’s side, द्वारा Kyoya’s older brother, Ritsu. Kanade will meet many bishonen, many और than Kohoko did in Primo Passo—too many to recount each one. Kyoya reacts with some jealousy if a boy flirts with Kanade.
Half as long as Primo Passo, the ऐनीमे shoves a bunch of guys to parade before Kanade without giving her as much as chance to know them as Kohoko got to know her harem. No big deal, I guess—like her predecessor, Kanade never really settles on one boy.
Once more, to compare Blue Sky with Primo Passo, I had a hard time getting into the competition at first, though I liked the series द्वारा the end.
