Despite a breakdown in Marvel’s synergistic plans to debut the first teaser for
. when a raw-looking, early leak of the footage hit the web on Wednesday, the film has still shattered the studio’s records for trailer views. 
Within 24 hours, the trailer for the May 1, 2015 film tallied 34.3 million global views, according to parent company Disney.
Even though many caught their first impression of the trailer from the bootlegged version (which sources at the studio suspect was the handiwork of someone from one of the international markets, where the trailer was sent for translation in advance of Tuesday’s scheduled debut) that seems to have only helped the final, polished version of the material—which Marvel quickly put out so that fans would at least be seeing it in the way it was meant to be viewed.
About 26.2 million of those clicks came from Marvel’s YouTube account, which would have been enough to leave the studio’s previous superhero trailers in the dust.

‘s trailer isn’t the surprise—it’s the magnitude that’s notable, and it’s also indicative that more records may yet be broken when the sequel hits theaters next year.
