One thing that bugs me is when people get this idea that mental illnesses automatically make you violent, which is BS. By definition, what I have is a mental illness--and that's nothing to be ashamed of. It can be complicated to live with but not impossible.

I really hate this one. There are a lot of people that say only white people can be racist because other races don't have the "power" to be racist. Whatever that means. If you're a person, doesn't matter what race you are, and you hate a whole group of people because of their race then that makes you racist. No ifs ands or buts about it.
The rest of these choices I hate as well. This was really hard to choose.

All of them are bad but I chose this one because I experience it personally very often. Both online and in real life. Along with "reverse racism doesn't exist".

@NCIS Racism is just racism. If you legitimately think you can't be racist/prejudiced against white people you don't use logic in the least bit. Reverse racism doesn't exist but RACISM does. If you argue that racism is a form of a social construct but can be prejudiced towards whites Then ok but at least you acknowledge you can be racist towards white people but in a different sense. I don't agree with the alternate sense but I can give a little leeway.. What annoys me the most is when people don't use their brain before coming up with nonsensical ideals.

I totally agree. Sorry, NCIS, but Blind has a major point. It's probably best just to call it racism and not the other. To assume that I, a white male, just can't be hated on simply because of my race is a contradiction. Racism isn't about non-white hatred, it describes hatred towards an individual because of their skin color. But by your logic, I guess my skin color isn't a race? OK....

Racism is based on a couple of things—historical, systemic oppression and power. And as far as history goes, white people have never been persecuted for the colour of their skin—so there's no point comparing their experiences to those of black, brown, and Indigenous folks.

Prejudice is when a person negatively pre-judges another person or group without getting to know the beliefs, thoughts, and feelings behind their words and actions. A person of any racial group can be prejudiced towards a person of any other racial group. There is no power dynamic involved.

You CAN be prejudiced against white people, yes, but you can NOT be racist towards them.

While I disagree with NCIS (I have never been a fan of the power + prejudice statement) don't you guys think you are going a bit overboard? She has like 3 people telling her that they don't want to exist because of her. Don't get me wrong I like all three of you guys! But I don't think personal attacks are warranted at this point; however illogical you may find her opinions to be, she's still stating them calmly and respectfully.

As for the logic itself. The one major thing that I can think of off of the top of my head is the whole, "white people have not been persecuted." thing. It's just wrong imo. Remember the disabled kid who got tortured; they were literally screaming "fuck Trump, fuck white people." at him and he didn't even vote for Trump. There have been so many instances of protesters physically attacking white people after assuming they voted for Trump. Tumblr had a thing called fight a white night. I've come across a tumblr user who legitimately wanted to rape white women because they 'deserved it'. Aren't these things racially motivated persecution?
I'm not saying that it happens as often as it does to black people nor is it on the same level. But it still happens.

Also, I was thinking the exact same thing with the story of that white guy getting kidnapped and tortured by that group of black people just for him being white. How can anyone sit by and say that minorities can't be racist to white people when stuff like that happens? It doesn't make sense to me. Even NCIS's explanation didn't help me understand that way of thinking. It's so confusing. I personally think that anybody, no matter who you are, has the ability to be racist. All you have to do is hold ill thoughts against a certain group of people. You don't need a special "power" to be racist.

Jfc the shitstorm that is this comments section just because people are going off different definitions of the word "racism". The misunderstanding is literally just semantics, peeps.

Colloquial definition of "racism": includes and extends to individual prejudice.

Academic definition of "racism": refers to systematic inequities.

When people say "there isn't racism against whites in America", they're operating on the second definition. They're not denying that individual prejudice, hatred and injustices occur against white people. Individual prejudice exists everywhere and flows in all directions.

Don't want to restart this debate. Just pointing out that people weren't actually saying very different things on here.
