Now, yes, there have been a whole smattering of selfies which have featured royals in them. (We’ve all Photoshopped a picture of our own face on top of the New Zealand teenager in this

Kate Middleton-starring selfie and pretended we were the one who took it, right?

Right??) But there have been very few officially sanctioned selfies actually taken inside of Buckingham Palace. Prince Andrew is believed to have taken the first-ever palace selfie in April, when he snapped a shot while at the podium during a business and technology event. It was a valiant first effort from the royal family, though there was definitely room for improvement (the selfie was uploaded to Twitter without a caption, for one thing; and . . . let’s just say Andrew could benefit from studying Kim Kardashian’s Instagram for guidance on lighting and angles).

And now we have our second (publicly shared) royal selfie, as Harry and William posed for this shot yesterday in Buckingham Palace’s 1855 Room. The princes were taking part in the Queen’s Young Leaders Program, which aims to honor the achievements of, yes, young leaders across the country and world. The brothers participated in a Google Hangout, and then took this snap in front of a “Twitter Mirror” (“basically an iPad in a frame”) that was set up in the room. (Yeah, yeah, this isn’t technically a selfie, as none of the participants are holding the phone themselves, but the filtering and composition of the picture—as well as their facial expressions—are extremely selfie-esque, so we’re going to give it a pass.) The man in the middle, who almost certainly now has a new Facebook profile picture, is 23-year-old Internet entrepreneur Jamal Edwards. (Also, apologies, Jamal, as we’re mostly likely going to be Photoshopping our own face over yours—as is our aforementioned way—before printing the image out and scribbling “THREE PRINCES” on it with yellow crayon.)
