A \'Sense8\' Season 1 recap for everyone who gave up before the end
So you didn\'t get through Netflix\'s "Sense8," did you? Hey, no one\'s blaming you -- it\'s quite the convoluted piece of work, and you\'re either into it or you\'re not. But just because you didn\'t make it to the end doesn\'t mean you\'re not intrigued about how everything turns out for those eight mysterious strangers.
J. Michael Straczynski and the Wachowski\'s drama is a wild ride of sexuality, romance, violence, humanity and empathy. It\'s also confusing as all heck. For all the "Sense8" viewers who tried out the series and then gave up -- or never watched it in the first place -- but want to know what happens in the end, Zap2it is here to help.

Take a look below at what happens to the eight characters who are mentally connected to each other and who exactly they all have to fight against to survive.
Starting from the beginning, here are the eight people -- or, rather, "sensates" -- who make it somewhat justifiable for "Sense8" to have a number in its title:
Will: The Chicago cop and eternal good guy ends up falling in love with Riley. Unlike the other characters, he spends a fair amount of time with Jonas, who could either be good or bad depending on where the wind blows.
Riley: The wild DJ has a slow burning storyline, but by the last few episodes, the series revolves around her. Riley\'s backstory reveals that both her husband and newborn child died after they all got in a car crash in the mountains. The story becomes important when she is forced to relive the trauma after escaping with Will from Whispers\' clutches. She must leave the mountain -- something she promised her daughter she would never do -- so she can drive an unconscious Will away from Whispers.
Nomi: The transgender female blogger quickly gets pulled in to the sensate underbelly when she is told that she needs a lobotomy after falling during an accident. She is the first sensate to meet Dr. Matheson aka Mr. Whispers, aka the evil guy. When she\'s not figuring out what the heck she\'s a part of, she\'s busy being in love with her girlfriend, Amanita.
Kala: The Indian scientist struggles with her impending marriage and her growing attraction to Wolfgang.
Wolfgang: The German safecracker and conman is on a mission to protect his friend, Felix, from his pseudo cousin and father. In the end, he kills both of them and reveals that he killed his own abusive father when he was just a young boy.
Capheus: The Nairobi bus driver gets involved with a drug lord and starts working for him by driving the drug lord\'s sick daughter back and forth from the hospital. Becoming fond of the young girl, he ends up killing a lot of bad guys -- thanks to Sun\'s fighting skills -- to save her.
Sun: To protect her father and her embezzling brother, she takes the fall and goes to prison so their family company can survive. However, out of guilt, her father says that he will admit the truth so she can be free. Too bad her, her brother kills their father to save his own skin.
Lito: The gay telenovela actor struggles with his sexuality in the spotlight. He enters a kind of three-way romance with his boyfriend, Hernando, and his friend, Daniela. Hernando eventually breaks up with Lito but after having a talk Nomi, Lito realizes he needs to be brave and be with Hernando.
Basically, as Jonas -- a sensate who isn\'t a part of the eight-person cluster -- explains, sensates are not
not human. If anything, they\'re more human than the average human because of their connection to nature and each other. However, they are being hunted by another sensate, Dr. Whispers. Because he is not in their "cluster" (the eight sensates make up a unique cluster) he can\'t "visit" them or see inside their minds unless he makes eye contact with them first.
Although it is still somewhat unclear on what his end goal is, he is on a mission to find all of the sensates. He can find them by being notified of any brain normalities. At one point, Nomi is taken to the hospital for a head injury and it is there that Mr. Whispers and his people attempt to give her a lobotomy. However, she is able to break free.
In the last episode, Riley is also taken to the hospital, only this time, Whispers gets to her. The only problem for him is that she is unconscious, which means her eyes are not open and therefore he can not make eye contact with her and then gain access to her mind. (Yes, really.) He wants to gain access so he can then figure out where the other sensates are.
By using their combined skills -- something they do often throughout the series -- the sensates are able to rescue Riley from the hospital. Once Will has Riley will him and they\'ve escaped, they are still followed by Whispers, who says he will always know where they are because he has a connection with Will. Will figures out that if he can make himself unconscious and Riley can bring them somewhere safe, they can lose Whispers. The plan works and all eight sensates float away on a boat into the sunset together. (That literally happens.)
At its core, "Sense8" is about humanity and how we\'re all alike even through our differences; the much-talked-about birthing scene shows just that. While Riley watches her father play with his orchestra, each sensate watches with her and experiences their own births while music plays in the background. There\'s tears, laughter and sadness and it\'s all beautifully magnificent. But, you know, it\'s also eight live births ... so you\'ve been warned.
