I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Game of Thrones actors interview at MCM Comic Con
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
attended the 2015 MCM Comic Con at Birmingham, and talked about their experiences filming the show.
2015 MCM Comic Con at Birmingham, England, opened it’s doors on November 21, and some of
‘ most beloved actors were on hand for interviews. Ian McElhinney, who played the much-mourned Barristan the Bold, was there, as well as Ian Beattie, whose character Meryn Trant was murdered in the eyeballs by
No One in Season 5. Eugene Simon and Roger Ashton-Griffiths, who play living characters Brother Lancel Lannister and Lord of Highgarden Mace Tyrell, were there as well.
All four actors got together for a talk about what it means to be part of the world of
and how much they love the fans. They also discussed what they consider the Golden Age of Television.
all day long. He really was the perfect choice to portray Barristan Selmy, and we shall never see his like again…to take a page from the Night’s Watch eulogy, or Shakespeare, depending on your comfortable reading range. I also find it interesting that McElhinney mentions that filming his actual scenes for
didn’t take up that much of his life, which was the opposite of what I thought.
Here’s Eugene Simon’s parts all cut together. What I like about Simon is that he’s a huge nerd who has read the books thoroughly. In fact, besides McElhinney, Simon’s in-depth knowledge of his character from the books is really quite unparalleled among the cast members.
That story about Simon originally auditioning for Joffrey has floated around for a while now. It’s hard to imagine him outdoing Jack Gleeson, so things seems to have worked out for the best.
Next, Roger Ashton’s parts are singled out:
Roger Ashton seems like the nicest guy in the entire world. If Ian McElhinny was the perfect Barristan, then Ashton is matching him as Mace Tyrell. Notice how he is all compliments about the crew and cast of
, and didn’t get grumpy about the phone ringing…such a friendly guy.
I think my favorite part from Ashton-Griffith’s interview was the “Mace Tyrell probably owns a private zoo” segment. He has a point: the Tyrells are likely the richest family in the Seven Kingdoms. (Recall that, before the death, Tywin Lannister mentioned that the gold mines owned by the Lannisters had run dry.) So I could totally see Mace Tyrell owning an elephant…I just never noticed any elephant buckles on his costume before.
I dunno, I don’t see elephant buckles on his costume here (Ashton-Griffith mentions he wore them in Braavos), but then again, they may have not shown up on screen. Also, I wonder what other three roles he was up for before he landed Mace Tyrell.

Actor Brian Fortune has enjoyed a long and fairly uneventful life as an actor on Game of Thrones...
Back in June, George R.R. Martin appeared on the recently revived arts program The South Bank Show...

Arya probably saved Mace Tyrell from being murdered by Meryn Trant.
I wish Hizdahrs plot as the harpy would have panned out in the series. Would’ve loved to see Barristan some more. It’s a shame cause now I think he may die in the battle of Mereen.
I don’t think the books ever formally established Hizdahr as the “Harpy”…
They all but verified it. Barry confronts him and he starts blaming the Dornish and then stammering like an idiot before sicking his pit fighter on him.
One of my favorite lines in the entire series. THAT is what we were robbed of when they killed Barristan.
Yeah, Selmy basically convicted him without ny evidence and Hizdahr reacted to being railroaded. That doesn’t prove guilt.
Killing off Barriston the Bold, the last of the great and noble knights of the Kingsguard, in a street brawl was a FUCKING TRAVESTY.
It was believed by ser Barristan that Hizdahr was the harpy or something close. He tried to poison Dany and have Drogon killed. The whole confrontation thereafter was awesome to me.
He wanted Dany to try the locusts but she declined. Strong Belwas ate a ton of them and got sick so an assumption was made that Hizdahr was trying to poisin her.
A dance with dragons I think. Possible an excerpt from the winds of winter. It was never confirmed, but some characters must have credence as a POV. I think Barristan would qualify as a trustworthy POV. He seems quite legit. Hate to lose him.
I am pretty sure Barristan Selmy’s first POV chapter occurs in TWOW and it has more to do with the siege of Mereen.
See my response to your post. It’s the chapter before “The Dragontamer” where Q gets roasted by Rhaegal.
Game of Thrones beer reviewed here! Its actually really good! And something to say about that book..
Selmy has 4 POV chapters in ADWD, all happening after the events at Daznak’s Pit. He’s supposed to have at least 2 chapters in TWOW although it might change before the book is released.
Not only were we robbed of the Kingbreaker moment when Selmy was killed on TV but also the awesome (but brief) moment when The Bold jumps in the pit to confront Drogon, not for pride but out of courage, fearing for Daenerys. Even if the dragon just ignored him in the end, it was an enormously risky move, though a respectful one.
The zoo comment makes me think he based the character on the marquis of bath (Americans won’t know him but he’s a pretty well known colourful and massively eccentric British aristocrat…with a zoo). And I can see some similarities with him in how he acts now too. So basically from now on when he’s on screen all I’ll be seeing is the goddam marquis of bath. This is not a good thing.
the elephant buckles can see in the upper part of his royal blue coat. I think it was made in bronze. beneath the moss green tie.
