वाद-विवाद Is atheism a religion?

I was having this debate with some people: Can atheism, the belief that God does not exist, be considered a religion? Or is religion in and of itself the belief in a higher power?

We came to the decision that it really depends on how you define religion. I went so far as to look the word "religion" up in my dictionary (Webster's New World), and it said it is "a belief in a divine or superhuman power or powers to be obeyed and worshipped as the creator(s) and ruler(s) of the universe". But it also said that it is "any system of beliefs, practices, or ethical values". We never came to a certain conclusion, so I wanted to hear other people's opinions on this subject.

So what do you think? Can atheism be considered a religion?
