Yes. i dont know about anyone else here. and i know how much people despised season one damon, but unlike most people, i NEVER hated him. i was angry with him, and i hated his actions, but never him. i dont know, but from the moment i saw him acting out in season 1, i just instantly kNEW that there was something more behind it. something MUCH bigger, than just the simple, " the girl i loved chose my bro over me." all i could think was, there is noway he is behaving like this for no reason. it cant be a about a girl surely? if guys arent picked by a the girl they love, they throw hissy fits, they sulk, they brood, and they become boring. and some just accept it and move on. they DONOT kill and murder poeple for pleasure, they do not manipulate people into trusting them, and use them for their own benefit. and they do not use torture as a game. no! i felt that their must be something alot more sinister behind his behaviour. like he has been through some horrific ordeal. and what was used on him, was embeded into him, making him phycologically damaged in his mind, and that caused him to act out what had been done to him on other people. think about it. once captured by the augustines, murder, torture, manipulation and revenge are all he ever knew. he never really new love and compassion, because it was never really shown to him. i think that in a way, him killing all those poeple, was his way of taking revenge on the "human beings" that made his life a living hell. basically it was him asking why he should care about humans, wheh they never cared about him. and thats why i think he behaved so badly in season one and two. and as for his behaviour in season five, well put yourself in damons shoes, just when you think that you have finally put the past behind, and you have got everything you could ever want out of life, enter the monsters of your worst nightmares, come back to haunt you. its obviously going to bring back alot of emotions that you had buried deep inside you. everything you know now, fades into the back ground, and all you want to do now, is exact that revenge of which you never got to have against the sadists who made you what you are.

Well, now 5 years later we understand his actions better. I never hated him either. He did everything for love. Maybe some of his choices were wrong but i forgive him. ;) <3

The fact that I knew there was more to it, is the reason why I skipped the whole 'You're evil and I hate you' part. Besides, I had already jumped on board of the DE ship before it had even started, so I was kind of obligated to give him the benefit of the doubt. Haven't regretted it for a second :)
