I mean honestly, this whole thing could probably have been avoided if Ms. Barnes hadn\'t put a 6-year-old in the awkward position of publicly calling out a friend in front of the whole class and their insufferable parents. As someone who was bitten in preschool―an incident which resulted in no petitions, suspensions, or murders―I can say that the police are clearly looking in the wrong direction.

But don\'t take my word for it! I interviewed a real New York City teacher, my friend Rachel, about why Ms. Barnes is the absolute worst.

Ok, so what were your feelings when this call out went down?

My first inclination was just cringing like "no, no this is not how to handle this." BUT I do want to make this point very clear: When a child says that someone hurt them or touched them, they need to be believed, and it needs to be taken VERY seriously. In fact, I do not think that the teacher took it seriously enough. That was a huge mark on someone\'s neck. It should have prompted a much larger response from the school team than "ok, point to who did it!" IN FRONT OF PARENTS.

Yes! Yeah like, I\'m sorry but these bonkers parents do not exactly foster a "safe space."

NO. And their emotional attachment to the children will just make the issue 1000% times worse, which it did, because obviously they love their children more than anything.

Exactly! And someone died! Parents will die protecting their children. Ostracizing a child, having the whole class know about it, AND having all the parents know about it is a nightmare for both students involved. It singles out both the accused and abused, which it ultimately did on the show. The fact of the matter is what happened to the child was a serious issue and it wasn\'t dealt with seriously. It was dealt with in a very immature and unprofessional way.

This teacher is just so bad. First, she promises Amabella that she\'ll keep something a secret. As a teacher, you NEVER promise that. Also, don\'t teach kids to keep secrets, that\'s bad too! I feel like I\'m watching

Why do you think Ms. Barnes would think this was a good idea?

I think she thought it was a good idea because you want the parents to reprimand their kid when they\'ve done something wrong. Also, you must address this to the parents of the kids, but getting ALL of the parents involved instead of a select few was really, really bad. It just seems so wrong. So many schools have a protocol for this sort of incident and it just seems like the teacher wasn\'t thinking.

Yes! This cannot have been the first time a six-year-old hurt another six-year-old. Also I\'m sorry that stuffed hippo is not helping.

It\'s not. Don\'t give kids precious things. They will lose them every time.

It just seems very confusing that there wouldn\'t be protocol for this.

Kids hurt each other ALL.THE.TIME. On purpose or by accident or whatever, but the entire school community usually doesn\'t have to hear about it because it\'s dealt with in a tactful way. Anyway, if this had been dealt with in a more private manner and in a way that dictates careful anti-bullying tactics (which, believe me, most schools have), then I think there would still be tension between the families but no one would have died.

Oh man, what if the teacher did it because she\'s so fed up with all the parents?

She just came back from a 10 week break, she had plenty of time to clear her mind.
