I just like that they used the word "penultimate."

Seems like from the 5x12 synopsis that Morgana now knows his secret. But I bet you that if Arthur ever finds out, it's going to be at the last possible moment of the series.

crying
If Arthur dies and Gwen is weeping over him, I think I'll have a nervous breakdown. I don't want her to be left all alone, even if it is to rule Camelot and even if he has left her with child. Sge will have lost everyone in the world that she cares for.

I imagine the final words on his lips will be "Guinevere" and I'm crying already.

It has to be a happy ending for me, please.

God, these episode descriptions have made me depressed. My hopes of seeing the Golden Age and Arthur restoring magic back again to the kingdom have been dashed. They have had Merlin say so many times about how Arthur will bring about a Golden Age and restore magic and we have yet to see it and going by these it won't happen. This really pisses me off because they skipped three years of A/G's reign and you would think they would show Arthur's opinions towards magic changing and him combining the lands, but no instead we get the same old, some old recycled story lines.

Where is Kilgarragh, this mighty dragon cannot breathe fire and save Camelot and Arthur against Morgana. These people were able to change the legend when it suited them, hopefully they will give us a happier ending, but it sounds like they are going ahead with the original ending with the death of Arthur. Reading the reviews they seem to be concentrating more on the future and continuation of Merlin the wizard, not Arthur. The fate of Arthur seemed to be sealed

So disappointed. Lorna, I doubt if when he dies that Gwen will be there, that is unless he's wounded and brought back to die, but I don't think they'd do that. Everyone is upset over this. Such a shame.

Like everyone is worrying about, there just may be no magic reveal. That would be horrible. And like BB said, if there is, it will be rushed and we'll never get to see A/M dynamics with Arthur knowin.

They've rather made Merlin's character a tragic one IMO.

I don't want these people ruining my Christmas.

I must say that I feel betrayed/lied to, I know that nothing was ever promised, but from season one of the show we had the great dragon filling Merlin and our heads with the tale of the great kingdom that Merlin and Arthur would create. This great land where magic would be accepted. Yet none of that came to fruition. Instead it appears that we are going to get Arthur getting killed after only 4 years of rule, no creation of the great kingdom and no magical reveal. And poor Gwen is set to lose her husband after so recently losing her brother. :-(

^Yes, if things turn out like we all seem to think/fear, we definitely would have been, at the very least, misled. Lied to.

The following things would be unacceptable:
-No magic reveal
-Dead Arthur/Camelot's fall (they could justify that they've had 3 years of peace that we didn't see. I would have liked to have seen some happy Camelot, wouldn't you?)
-Great dragon doing bugger all to help
-Morgana living.

I agree with you Lucerne, they lied, they said they were taking the route of the Welsh legend. Arthur and Guinevere ruling happily, with 4 sons and lived till old age. It was the French that changed the legend and introduced Lancelot and a betrayal to give the legend more pizzazz .Him dying at Camlann has always been part of the legend but he died at an older age and only after he united the lands of Albion. Here Arthur has not completed his task yet, and he is not high king of Albion. Hopefully they might surprise us with a different ending, a surprise twist

^Agreed! I hope we get a surprise twist like Arthur doesn't die young and maybe Gwen might find out she is pregnant...

I know what the prophecies say but they sure twisted for Gwen and Lancelot, I hope they twist it to allow Arthur to live because there would be no new movies or anything after this series if he dies based on the series itself unless it spins off with only Merlin. I wonder if they changed the season finale after the decision was made to end the show because they did not mention all of this before? Humble Queen, the article mentioned that Merlin had to save the brotherhood that he shared with Arthur, I am wondering to if there is going to be some type of magic reveal. It just does not seem right if the show goes off without Arthur not really knowing who Merlin is. But apparently Morgana is going to find out and I am thinking thanks to Mordred and I doubt that she waste anytime putting the screws to Merlin by telling Arthur herself.

I think this next episode where it showed them having to leave Mordred behind is going to be the twist in the plot to turn Mordred against Arthur and Camelot. There is so much going on in this end it is almost like you want to hold on to your seat during the episode or you might miss something.

It would be nice for Gwen to become pregnant
Arthur to unite the five kingdoms because this is supposed to happen before he dies
Merlin to have his magic reveal and be respected as he should be
Merlin's level of power demonstrated as being the most powerful warlock to walk the face of the earth as prophesied and not hiding. I would like to see him using more of his elemental magic slowing down time, bringing on storms, rattling the earth. Things Morgana cannot do without the use of spells and things Merlin can do at will.
Hunith appearance one last time

There is just so much left to see and we are already at episode 9. I do not know how they plan on cramming everything into the last few episodes but that is what they get paid the big bucks for.

My hope for the end:

They say there must balance in the life cycle. A life for a life. Merlin gives his life to save Arthur's. His job was maybe lay the groundwork for Arthur to build Albion. Arthur with his queen Guinevere continue, so to pass Albion to Arthur's heir (or heiress).

I still want justice served - Morgana goes out with a public execution. She finally answers for her crimes. A battlefield death is too good for her.

I really do not wish to see Merlin die either, he is just as an important character as the rest. The show is name after his character. I hope that his magic will be able to save them all along with the Great Dragon and maybe they can turn Aithusa back to the right as well. I would be disappointed if Arthur, Gwen, Merlin, or even if Gauis died. I think it is time for Morgana though but I think it will be Mordred that will die.

The legends never place Merlin to watch Arthur die but to come either at the end or to speak to him in his final words as Merlin was trapped or ambushed. If he is by his side I think he will be able to protect him but if they capture him there will be no magic to help on Arthur's side.

Arthur will have to accept magic somehow because I cannot see Merlin sneaking to use magic in an open fight against Mordred and Morgana. He will also have to confess to being a Dragon Lord if Kilgharrah gets involved.

Arthur and Merlin are supposed to bring about Albion together as two sides of the same coin. Arthur will need magic to do so as magic is the key in this prophecy, hence the need for Merlin. It would have been nice if Merlin was an immortal like some of the legends. He would definitely have more power.

In the episode with Nimueh, she dealt a fatal blow to Merlin and he was able to get right up after a moment.

Last week Merlin used magic after being poisoned and started throwing up. I think that a normal person would have been dead by the time the boy came back to help. I think his magic helped to sustain him a little while longer there too.

I do not think he can die as easily as people think. He may not be immortal but I think his magic sustains him in the healing process quickly since he was born with his.

Again, I do not wish to see Arthur or Merlin dead. Nor Gwen or Gauis. It was bad enough to watch Elyan die, we do not need any more but if there is a great battle at Camlann there is going to be some tragic moments.

Maybe Morgana's life can be the one traded for Arthur's. I'd broker that deal...

Merlin is present at the battle but as dragoon, he will not be recognized by Arthur, he has used magic in front of Arthur but in disguised. In the stories told he became distracted when Mordred struck the mortal blow to Arthur. This time he is forewarned and knows when and where, that is why I hope there will be a twist and Merlin/dragoon will save the day. Arthur lives to fight Mordred another day at an older age and that time he will die. Morgana hopefully dies this time but in legend she is the one left standing and takes Arthur's body to Avalon. I read a fanfic and I loved that ending best, Arthur sends Morgana to bring Guinevere to him and takes her with him to Avalon. Where they live immortal lives. This soothes my soul than thinking Gwen being left alone.
