Jack's death is meant to connect the audience with the real feelings of that event; there was no point in portraying a happy wedding when thousands of people suffered when they lost their loved ones when the RMS Titanic sank. However, remember that when Rose dies she goes to heaven and reunites with Jack and other people who appreciated her.
