He was the only one who thought fast, the first who offered a solution even though he was risking his life!
Look at it from his POV, he saw his friend die in front of him and the the guy who killed him said Tyler could still be back if they found a way. Bonnie did nothing and he gave the only solution he could think of to save Tyler (who is now with his ex gf, might I add) and Elena.

After this episode I better not hear anyone say "Matt is boring" cause I'll stab whoever says that personally.
