We\'re still having nightmares over the fact that Nina Dobrev is officially leaving

, and these last few episodes of the sixth season may very well be the last we see of Elena Gilbert on the show. *Cue the endless tears*

\'s showrunner, Julie Plec, was just as desperate for Nina to stay as we are, and Julie and all the writers behind the show pretty much begged Nina to stay (just like we\'ve been begging on Twitter and Insta ever since we got the heartbreaking news).

"Nina had said earlier this year that she wanted to be done," revealed Plec on a KCRW podcast last week. "We spent a little bit of time trying to talk her out of it. [We\'d say,] \'Oh, look at all these great plans of how you can stay!\'"

But, sadly, no amount of groveling or begging could make Nina stay. In the end, she was ready to move on and explore other projects. "[Nina was] finally like, \'No, I signed up for six years. I\'ve done my six years. I\'m ready to move on and spread my wings,\'" said Plec. "She was just looking forward to moving on with no hard feelings and no drama."

No hard feeling?! NO DRAMA?! Nina! Do you understand you\'re ripping our hearts out and stomping on them?! ~Sigh~ But maybe having to film makeout scenes with her ex boyfriend, Ian Somerhalder, who is now married to someone else (Nikki Reed) would have been too hard for Nina.

We guess we understand that Nina\'s ready to move onto new things. After all, six years is a long time to play one role. So we\'ll try to get over it. And the fact that there\'s still another season coming starring all our other

faves — *cough* Damon *cough* — is a pretty good consolation prize (no matter how Elena-Gilbert-less it is).
