Why does Maria प्यार the Captain?

I am just trying to figure out why Maria fell in प्यार with the Captain. I know why the Captian fell in प्यार with Maria-she brought संगीत back into his life and encouraged him to प्यार his children and not avoid them. So, why did she fell in प्यार with him back?

But in my opinion it's because of the kindness she eventually saw in him, and the प्यार he develops for the children. The first time आप really see her look at him with obvious प्यार is when he agrees to sing Edelweiss for the children.
