Severus Snape may be evil, but then his प्यार for Lily made him do several things inconsistent with what an evil person would do. He feels terrible grief and remorse for causing her death and even agrees to spy and act as an double-agent on Lord Voldemort for Dumbledore because of his grief. Now, if he was outright evil. He would have taken immense pride in helping his master remove a serious threat, no matter the collateral damage. He didn't, if Snape was ruthlessly evil, he would have not cared at all if the प्यार of his life died as a consequence of his plots या not. He did care, why? Why if he is so evil as NataliaLidia claims? I answer myself: He might not be as evil as she portrays him, despite the affiliations and alliegences he had.

So in the context of love, Snape's actions seem entirely plausible, he hates Harry because Harry is a mirror image of the person that चुरा लिया the प्यार of his life. He agrees to help Dumbledore and the Order of the Phoenix because he wishes to repay Lily for taking her life. He walks on burning coal because he has this thing called प्यार and remorse. Now please do name one single outright evil person that really really regrets his actions. While आप do that, I conclude:
Snape is not an evil person as he really wants to mend the disaster he has caused to his own life. Comparing to another HP character: Bellatrix Lestrange, she haven't got the single thought of remorse yet. Instead, Mdme. Lestrange enjoyed the insanity she caused Mr. and Mrs. Longbottom to the point where she might be deemed insane herself. If Snape felt the same, we would have seen him enjoy the deaths he caused Mr. Potter, Snape never mentioned James in a positive light in the books, because of hate. But in the seventh book we see him ask Dumbledore to hide James as well when confronted head on with the question. A evil person would have not cared for his rival that much, so again I - We must conclude that Snape does not qualify to be evil. Quod Erat Demonstrandum.

Actually . . . I can. After seeing everything that he went through as a child and while in Hogwarts, I can completely believe that he joined a group of very powerful group of people who seemed to accept him.

I think for me, when I found out that he was a Death Eater... it just added to his attraction... :D Purrrrr... but then from the 2nd book on I knew he was on the good side, I just knew! ;)

yeah, I think severus hates his "muggle" father, and thus hates all muggles, so he was very much wanted to be a death eater at first

i cannot deny that eventhough dumbledore trusted him so much, i doubted his faithfulness. i cannot say that i didn't expected that he is still a death eater because somehow, like what i've said, i doubted him. when he killed dumbledore in book 6(in which he used my यूज़रनाम "avada kedavra" lol) i hated him sooo much. it's like, how could he do that?! dumbledore, though powerful and wise, was old and getting weaker and weaker. i actually cried that time. :'(
