I personally think that she was forced into telling Aro about Nessie. I mean, if Aro found out that Irina knew about Nessie and she didn't tell him about her, he'd be pissed! And she honestly thought that she was telling the truth.

Also, I'm on the fence about whether or not they should have killed her, because when you think about it, it's sort of like execution in prison. I do believe that everyone deserves a second chance. Ever thought of a Volturi dungeon, Aro?

Irina was scared. Her mother, whom she loved very much, was killed because of an immortal child. She got scared and made an assumption that turned out to be false. I don't agree with what she did, but I don't think that she deserved to die for it.
