One of my favorite memories has to be of link. The local PBS station when I was young, KTEH, played a lot of science fiction programming, catering to all the tech geeks living and working in Silicon Valley. The largest Doctor Who fan club in the US - the Legion of Rassilon - was closely affiliated with KTEH, using as it did KTEH's meeting rooms for its regular meetings. The Web 2.0 experience we enjoy here at Fanpop is a direct spiritual descendant of the Legion's fans, who were constantly doing all the things we associate with die-hard fan behavior: making fan videos, music videos, homebrew pictures, comics, merchandise, et cetera. We also manned the phones on pledge nights many times.
