Pokemon is that rarest of ऐनीमे and मांगा franchise phenomenona: an ऐनीमे and मांगा franchise who managed to completely पार करना, क्रॉस over from the सेकंड best-selling video game franchise to the the world's largest mainstream ऐनीमे and मांगा franchise. Other video game franchises like Mario and Sonic performed similar moves in which notably became enduring mainstream आइकनों based on their video game franchise work -- but Pokemon shed video game franchise roots like they were a सेकंड skin; it was a necessary molting to reveal Pokemon was perhaps the sharpest, savviest, populist ऐनीमे and मांगा franchise of the ऐनीमे and मांगा franchise generation, one who could साज़, दोहन, हार्नेस the zeitgeist and turn it personal and, just as impressively, perform the reverse. These skills were evident on Pokemon's earliest hits, especially the first Pokemon games, Pokemon Red and Green for Game Boy which came out on February 27, 1996, but the Pokemon anime, which premiered on April 1, 1997, showcased Pokemon discovering who the 90s franchise was and, in the process, finding a mass audience in the ऐनीमे and मांगा world. The ऐनीमे wound up having considerable legs not only in Japan, where Pokemon Red and Green racked up selling और than 10 million copies sold द्वारा 1997 on the strength of the ऐनीमे which was based on the video games, but throughout the world, performing particularly well in the U.S., Canada, U.K. and Australia as Pokemon Red and Blue, delivered almost two years later in the autumn of 1998, consolidated that success and Pokemon moved into the stratosphere of anime/manga superstardom, with the popularity only increasing in 1998 and द्वारा 1999, the Pokemon fad as well as the U.S. version of the ऐनीमे which become a huge success on Kids WB! during that same साल that found Pokemon moving assuredly from the video game industry into an ऐनीमे and मांगा realm where Pokemon already belonged.

Pokemon, originally called Capsule Monsters and Pocket Monsters, is one of the world’s most beloved and far-reaching ऐनीमे and मांगा franchises in the history of beloved and far-reaching franchises as well as the ऐनीमे and मांगा franchises world ever since February 27, 1996. With undeniable staying (and playing) power since its creation 20 years ago, it has since become the second-most successful and lucrative video game-based media franchises in the world, behind only Nintendo's own Mario empire, but Pokemon concentrated on delivering the franchise's follow-up set after the video games and trading cards, the anime. So with the ऐनीमे came out, Pokemon has begun transitioning from the video game franchise to an ऐनीमे and मांगा franchise making Pokemon the most successful and lucrative video game-based ऐनीमे and मांगा media franchises in the world. It started simply enough as a hobby of Satoshi Tajiri, who as a child had a fondness for catching insects and tadpoles near his घर in suburban Tokyo. Over time, Tajiri decided to put his idea of catching creatures into practice, to give children the same thrills he had as a child.

With the help of Ken Sugimori and other friends, Tajiri formed Game Freak and much later the डिज़ाइन studio known as Creatures. When Tajiri discovered the Game Boy and the Game Boy Game Link Cable, it gave him the image of insects traveling along the wire. Tajiri was also heavily influenced द्वारा the Ultraman कल्पना टेलीविज़न show, Ultra Seven, in which the protagonist used giant monsters contained within small capsules to help him fight. Together, these two sources gave him the idea for a new ऐनीमे and मांगा franchise that started off with the games called Pocket Monsters. So in 1990, Tajiri began making an ऐनीमे and मांगा franchise that started off as a Game Boy game where played can use a link cable and trade anime/manga characters between to 2 Game Boy systems and their ऐनीमे licensed games called Pokemon. The new ऐनीमे licensed game started off as a project called Capsule Monsters. So far, after several failed attempts at pitching this idea to निनटेंडो (Pokemon's video game partner that published Pokemon games), Tajiri's new friend Shigeru Miyamoto pitched it to the company, and निनटेंडो began to fund the project, spending six years developing the games that would become a worldwide sensation. Due to trademarking issues, the name "Capsule Monsters" was changed to "Pocket Monsters". The original artwork for the games was drawn द्वारा Tajiri's friend, artist Ken Sugimori, while the संगीत and sound effects were composed द्वारा Junichi Masuda. After debugging was completed, Shigeki Morimoto programmed Mew into the game. However, Game Freak planned to keep the 151st Pokemon hidden from the public unless it was needed for a post-launch event. The project nearly drove Game Freak to bankruptcy. Five employees quit due to the financial conditions, and Tajiri worked many unpaid hours. Throughout 1996, Pokemon is a very short lived video game franchise because Pokemon is designed to be an ऐनीमे and मांगा franchise that started off with the video games, not a video game franchise.

Appearing in 1996, Pokemon Red and Green was the fulfillment of Satoshi Tajiri's dream and allowed people of all ages to catch, train and trade 151 creatures like पिकाचू and become a Pokemon Master. Initially, the Pokemon games had modest sales. However, after players discovered Mew in the games, the magazine CoroCoro announced a "Legendary Pokemon Offer" to distribute Mew to twenty entrants. The contest received 78,000 entrants, and the sales of the Pokemon games quickly increased. Due to high sales, Pokemon Red and Green were swiftly followed up with Pokemon Blue, which had improved graphics and sounds and after the games, a Pokemon Trading Card Game was developed द्वारा Media Factory with its own set of rules. The first set of cards was released on October 20, 1996, containing 102 cards, and became very लोकप्रिय making Pokemon becoming the first ऐनीमे and मांगा franchise that started off with the video games. The popularity of the franchise also led to an ऐनीमे series based on the games, premiering in जापान on April 1, 1997. The main character was a young पोकेमोन Trainer named Satoshi (after Satoshi Tajiri, later dubbed in English to Ash Ketchum), based on Red. Another character introduced in the first episode was Satoshi's rival, Shigeru (after Shigeru Miyamoto, later dubbed in English to Gary Oak), based on Blue. The ऐनीमे quickly became very popular, and soon a मांगा series based on it named The Electric Tale of पिकाचू was written द्वारा Toshihiro Ono. Due to Pokemon's success in Japan, the series was released overseas. Before the games were released in North America, the localization team attempted to change the Pokemon designs, fearing that the cute designs would not appeal to western gamers; however, the proposal was refused. North America received Red and Blue Versions, as well as the anime, in September 1998 (the ऐनीमे on the 7th and the games on the 30th), and soon everywhere else began to play the games on the Game Boy under the slogan Gotta Catch 'em All!. The Trading Card Game was also introduced to North America on January 9, 1999 द्वारा Wizards of the Coast. The Electric Tale of पिकाचू became the first Pokemon मांगा to be translated to English when VIZ Media started publishing it on September 28, 1999. Meanwhile in जापान in 1998, the first Pokemon Center store was opened in Tokyo on April 25, 1998, specializing in Pokemon merchandise. Along the way, Pokemon's very own anime/manga franchise company called The Pokemon Company began its operations. Pokemon USA Inc is also held in 2001 before merging with the now defunct Pokemon U.K. and become The Pokemon Company International in 2009. Many such stores were opened in later years, and today there are six different stores across Japan, as well as a subsection in the निनटेंडो World Store in New York. The ऐनीमे also pushed the franchise to new heights. On July 18, 1998, Mewtwo Strikes Back debuted in Japanese theaters, featuring the rare Mew and Mewtwo. In the United States, where it was released on November 10, 1999, the movie even briefly held the record for highest-grossing opening for an animated film. Also in 1998, Pokemon Yellow for Game Boy was released and Pokemon सोना and Silver, the follow-up games that takes place in Johto introduced 100 new Pokemon like Donphan, for Game Boy Color was soon followed in 1999. Pokemon Crystal for Game Boy Color also came out in 2000.

This caused Pokemon to हटाइए on to the ऐनीमे and मांगा franchise allowing Pokemon फिल्में to become the biggest ऐनीमे फिल्में out there worldwide as well as the first 5 Pokemon movies, Pokemon: The First Movie-Pokemon हीरोस released in theaters across the US in 1999-2003. Pokemon's flirtation with the 21st century proved brief, as Pokemon then poured itself into the first Pokemon game for Game Boy Advance in 2002, Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. Released in November 2002, Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, the अगला Pokemon games that introduced Pokemon Contests, Abilities, Natures and 135 new Pokemon, was another smash that refused to lose momentum. Later third generation games like Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen and Pokemon पन्ना played a big factor in its success not just in the video game department but in the ऐनीमे and मांगा franchise department, as well. Following the अगला set of Pokemon games, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl (the first Pokemon games to support online play and introducing 107 new Pokemon), Pokemon Platinum and Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver (the remakes of Pokemon सोना and Silver), all for निनटेंडो DS in 2006-2009, Pokemon turned toward following an anime/manga path on the अगला games, Pokemon Black and White, the Pokemon games that introduced 156 new Pokemon, also for निनटेंडो DS in 2010, this allows Pokemon games to become the most successful anime/manga franchise licensed games thanks to The Pokemon Company and निनटेंडो which published Pokemon games like Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD (released in 2003 and 2005 respectively). Meanwhile in 2006, it was marked officially as Pokemon's tenth anniversary, and was celebrated as such in many ways, such as Journey Across America. Among other things, an English CD was released titled Pokemon X - 10 Years of Pokemon. On April 29, 2006, a special episode of the ऐनीमे called The Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon was broadcast in the United States. This was the first episode to use The Pokemon Company International's new voice actors (Pokemon USA at the time), causing big controversy among the Pokemon प्रशंसक community. The special was eventually broadcast in जापान as streaming video from the TV Tokyo Anitele web site from October 13 to October 31, 2006. In fall 2006, another section of the Pokemon franchise was created in the form of the Pokemon Trading Figure Game in Europe, Australia, and Southeast Asia, made द्वारा Kaiyodo. The figures reached North America and जापान in 2007. After 2006, Pokemon will become the most successful ऐनीमे and मांगा franchise allowing the ऐनीमे to introduced even और ऐनीमे characters including May and Max from Pokemon Advanced, Munchlax from May 2004, Dawn from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, and Iris and Cilan from Pokemon Black and White. All of them are from seasons 6-16 from 2002-2013. This makes Pokemon the biggest ऐनीमे series with 900 episodes as of today surpassing other ऐनीमे outputs like Dragon Ball Z, नारूटो and One Piece. Even though the ऐनीमे has been dwindled since the late 2000s (video games and anime), the ऐनीमे is still going strong. But Pokemon movies, however, will be the main Pokemon anime, making Pokemon फिल्में the largest ऐनीमे फिल्में out there and the ऐनीमे फिल्में world as Pokemon movies, Pokemon: Jirachi WishMaker-Pokemon: Genesect and the Legend Awakened went straight to TV. This allows Pokemon फिल्में to distribute event exclusive Pokemon like Jirachi to the main series Pokemon games like Pokemon Platinum allowing event Pokemon from Pokemon फिल्में like Arceus to transfer from one main series game to the other. This mainstream pulse was evident on main series Pokemon games like 2012's Pokemon Black and White sequels, Pokemon Black 2 and White 2. Upon its June 23, 2012 release, Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 for निनटेंडो DS shattered expectations द्वारा selling over a million copies worldwide द्वारा the end of 2012, a notable achievement that was doubly impressive in an era of anime/manga licensed games. Once again, Pokemon's anime/manga licensed products had legs making Pokemon games not only the most लोकप्रिय anime/manga licensed games in the anime/manga licensed products realm but also the most लोकप्रिय Pokemon licensed products in the whole franchise despite video games started the Pokemon franchise as the video game industry like निनटेंडो (which once again published Pokemon games) has moved on from Pokemon games as the video game industry prefers mainstream copy-and-paste video games like Call Of Duty.

As Pokemon geared up for the release of Pokemon X and Y on October 12, 2013, Pokemon made it clear that Pokemon X and Y was designed as the departure of the video game marketing and that there would be no video game marketing push for Pokemon X and Y, the अगला evolution in Pokemon games where Pokemon gets to introduce the Kalos region including Pokemon-Amie, a new type called Fairy and Mega Evolutions. Pokemon X and Y for निनटेंडो 3DS sold over 1 million copies in दिन one allowing Pokemon games to become the biggest licensed games ever made as well as the biggest ऐनीमे games with Pokemon seasons 17-19 which introduced Serena, Clemont and Bonnie was soon followed. When Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the remakes of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire that introduced Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre as well as Hoenn Mega Evolution, appeared in late 2014, it once again shot to the anime/manga licensed franchise marketing once again and shattered all expectations, selling 1.5 million copies in जापान during its first week and offering proof that Pokemon was indeed the world's biggest anime/manga franchise.

Today, for 20 years, Pokemon has delighted प्रशंसकों of all ages around the world for two decades. With और than 275 million video games sold worldwide, 21.5 billion TCG cards shipped to 74 countries, and an animated series spanning 19 seasons, Pokemon is not only one of the most successful entertainment brands in the world, but also the largest ऐनीमे and मांगा franchise in the world. This makes Pokemon games the best selling anime/manga games/licensed games as well as the only licensed games that sold every video game franchise except Mario like The Legend Of Zelda and MegaMan. Pokemon is no longer a video game franchise since Pokemon is not a video game franchise at all despite the video games are और लोकप्रिय than the ऐनीमे as Pokemon is now the world's largest ऐनीमे and मांगा franchise of all time as well as the world's biggest licensed games of all time. ~ PeterMWou, Fanpop
