Being blunt:I find it totally disrespectful to the artist, any type of art should not be played around with. The artist meant to say those words for a reason, you change/censor/**** around with it, it's like saying you don't care for the artist's true original work which like I said, is disrespectful.
You can't handle the original work and go for the censored/alternative versions? No offense, but people like me then assume you cannot grasp what the true meaning behind the song is & in my opinion, you can't take the original, you shouldn't then take the "screwed up" version (that's what I call it). That's just plain rude.
Just my opinion.

If music's going to be played on the radio, I know that I often play the radio in the car, and if I had my little cousin in their with me, I wouldn't want him to be exposed to the rather colourful vocabulary which inhabits some great songs. I'd much prefer to be able to still hear some form of lyric than a blank or technological additive.
Having said this, if the track is available on CD, it should be the uncensored version, partly, as princess829 stated, to preserve the original meaning of the artist in question. in this situation, it's entirely up to an individual as to whether they let young children listen to the track.
In the case of alternative lyrics for the radio play of a song, I don't believe that it detracts wholly from the song's intent or meaning, as songs largely are open to interpretation anyway, and the artist's intent in writing the song (or their hopes for people's perception of it) will mostly fall by the wayside unless their song is very black-and-white about its purpose, thus making it less listenable as it strips it of the most valuable thing which music is empowered with: The ability for every listener to perceive the song differently (and thus feel empathised with, and connected to something).
So no, I'm not against cencorship on a whole, unless it is undertaken without the express permission of the artist (e.g, if a radio station just decided to mess around with the track to remove swearing), as it does not detract from the song unless the artist (or listener) is very close-minded as to what the song should mean to individuals.

I get why it has to be censored for the radio. but some of the things they censor out annoys me.

There's no point in swearing in any songs, it just proves the artist cannot come up with a more sophisticated word to use.

It's their way of expressing their feelings and no one should take it away from them. You hear swearing every day when you're out you can't protect young people from it forever. As long as you know when and where it is appropriate to use that language I dont see a problem. If you don't like bad language don't listen. simple.
