When I woke up, Jacob was अगला to me. I guessed that my parents had left already.
He kissed me good morning. "How was your night?"
I frowned at him. "Cold."
He laughed, taking my hands to pull me up and off the bed. "Should we check on Alice? Make sure she didn't book us for a church in Barcelona?" I laughed. We had agreed to get married in the Cullens' house--it was definetly big enough--and the reception would be in the yard. "Let's go," I said.
Aunt Alice's room was in even worse shape than we had left it last night. The other unused sketches were crumpled up into paper balls, about two hundred of them, littering the floor. Bolts of fabric were unrolled in the room, and several manicans with dresses on them were in the middle of the room in a line.
Aunt Alice seemed oblivous to the mess. "Good morning!" she कहा cheerfully. "Nessie, आप need a fitting." Jacob stepped out as Aunt Alice sized me for the dress, taking measurements on a small pad of paper.
"Is this it?" I asked, holding up a couple scraps of fabric that were lying on the bed. "Yes," Aunt Alice said. "That's half the चोली right there." I held it up to me, finally getting an idea of how I would look in it. "It's beautiful!" I said. Aunt Alice snatched away the fabric. "I want आप to get the full effect," she told me. "The designer will be here later. I told him this was an emergecy order; we should be done द्वारा tonight! But no peeking! Stay OUT of here until I call आप back in!" She pushed me out the door and shut and locked it behind me. Jacob was right outside the door, and I bumped into him. "I want my dress," I pouted. He laughed and took my hand, leading us downstairs. "You'll see it soon enough. And you'll look beautiful." I smiled up at him and he smiled back.
We were still looking at each other with the eyes-of-true-love when Uncle Emmett groaned. "Ugh!" he complained. "Get a room already!" Jacob rolled his eyes. "Let's get out of here," he said. I nodded. "Okay." There was nothing left to do anyways. Grandma wouldn't let us see her house plans, and Aunt Alice had practically banned me from the house.
We took Jacob's Rabbit down to La Push First Beach. There was a dry log on the किनारा, शोर and we sat down on it.
Jacob looked at his hands as he spoke. "The wedding plans are pretty much finished..." I knew what he was getting at.
"I never knew आप wanted children," I told him. And I didn't. He never seemed to look at शिशु in a longing sort of way in stores या anything the way I did. I mean, I wasn't DYING to have a child, but it would be nice. I never thought that Jacob liked kids, though. He always seemed a bit annoyed and standoffish द्वारा them, in fact.
"Well, I never wanted kids of my own...I mean, Claire was pretty cute. But she's a big girl now and too old to think of as a little toddler." He laughed. "I always thought that kids लॉस्ट their cuteness around age seven या so. But आप changed my mind." he looked at me. "I saw आप when आप were a baby. आप were the cutest baby I'd ever seen! I figured I would lose interrest in आप eventually, even though I was imprinted on you. I wasn't sure, but I thought I could reverse the imprinting somehow. I didn't want to imprint. But I never लॉस्ट interrest. You're still the cutest baby I ever saw." He pinched my cheek, and I slapped his hand away playfully, waiting for him to continue. "So I want kids. I want to see them grow up and look like आप and me. I want to be responsible, for once, and take care of something living. I want some part of me to live on when I die. I think having kids with आप will be the best part of our marraige."
Wow. Who knew that Jacob thought like this?
"So आप WANT kids," I verified. "I was scared. I've always wanted a child, but I didn't think you'd go for it."
Jacob smiled at me. "Good. So...one...?"
"Or two."
"Maybe three..."
"Or four!" We laughed. It was good to know that we agreed on this.
We were still laughing as we headed back up to the Rabbit, because it was almost dark. Days seemed to be passing quicker nowadays.
"Let's start with one," Jacob decided, once he had turned on the heat in the Rabbit. "See how it goes. If आप want, we can have more."
"Perfect." I laughed at the idea of my eternally youthful parents being grandparents--cringed away from it, actually. I couldn't even imagine them being grandparents. It was kind of repulsive. It seemed impossible, actually, but my grandparents were too young as well. I wasn't going to let that get in the way of my plans, though.
We drove up to the house, where we were met द्वारा a bouncy, hyper Aunt Alice. She nearly took the door off the Rabbit in her eagerness to get us out.
"Nessie!" she squealed, dragging me to the front door. "We finished your dress! Come and see!" Jacob was attached to my hand like a vise as usual, but she pushed him away easily. "Not you. Just Nessie." I blew Jacob a किस as I was whisked away to Aunt Alice's room.
She made me close my eyes when I was outside the door. I heard her द्वारा the manican, tweaking and smoothing the dress for a full-blown effect. "Open!" she squealed. My eyes popped open wide, then wider as I took in the dress.
It was even और beautiful than it was in the sketch. The fabric looked so soft and silky; I could only imagine how it would feel on my skin. It was like a dream come to life. My eyes pricked with tears. "It's beautiful!" I gave Aunt Alice the biggest hug I could manage and thanked her repeatedly. "Don't thank me now--try it on!" She looked at me eagerly. I obeyed and within सेकंड्स I was standing in front of a full length mirror Aunt Alice held out for me. I could picture myself getting married in this dress, and I could picture Jacob standing अगला to me. Uncle Emmett was पढ़ना the vows...
I cried again, looking at myself. Now I knew that the wedding would be perfect. All of my doubts and worry evaporated. Aunt Alice was standing अगला to me, practically glowing with triumph. "Will आप help me plan tomorrow?" Aunt Alice asked. "Esme is busy with the house, and I have no one to share ideas with." I nodded. "Of course." I still stood in front of the mirror, not wanting to take the dress off. But I wanted to see Jacob, and Aunt Alice wouldn't let him see me in the dress prior to the wedding. Eventually I sighed and stripped off the dress, handing it to Aunt Alice with the most delicate care, and put on my other clothes.
I could see every other detail about the wedding clearly now, because I had the one thing that truly mattered to me; the dress. Between Aunt Alice and I, the wedding plans would be over very soon. I couldn't wait to get these plans out of the way so that Jacob could be mine! It was only a matter of time, now...
