"Harry Potter" fever is definitely not over. Reports have surfaced regarding plans to develop a new "Harry Potter" trilogy based on the wildly successful "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" play.
"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" is a two-part West End stage play based on a story written by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany. It takes place 20 years after the original "Harry Potter" series. In "Cursed Child," Harry Potter is an employee of a Ministry of Magic, a husband and father to three kids.
According to The Sun, Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" and the material is reportedly being developed into film. The material will be expanded into three films, and the original trio consisting of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint have reportedly been approached to reprise their roles.
Film expert and "Harry Potter" insider Jim Hill revealed Warner Bros. is planning to breathe new life into the magical franchise. The project is being likened to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
"They want this trilogy of movies to have the actors that we know and love from the original films, that we watched grow up, as adults," Hill said. "Harry Potter" bosses are also looking at younger actors to play the children of the original characters.
The news has gotten Potterheads excited for the rumored trilogy. The merriment, however, was cut short when J.K. Rowling addressed the rumors on Twitter.
According to ComicBook.com, the "Harry Potter" author posted a screen capture of a news report covering the said trilogy and wrote, "This. Is. Not. True." As for now, Warner Bros. and Rowling have their hands full with the "Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them" sequels.
There was one point, however, when Rowling also said that there were no plans to make a "Fantastic Beast" movie. Fans are banking on this to breed hope for more "Harry Potter" films featuring the original cast.
