Well, while we're talking names, I might as well tell you the meaning of mine. There's a pretty cool story behind it as well. Who wants to hear the story?

I was named Taylor because my mum loves sewing, and also after Taylor on the Bold and the Beautiful. I still think it would be funny if my sister was called Brooke, but they went with Courteney instead.

Funny story actually, it's spelled that way because my mum was absolutely exhausted and sick so dad had to put it down, but he forgot how to spell it. Luckily, there was a magazine with Courteney Cox on the cover. Unluckily, my dad had no idea that Courteney Cox's name isn't the normal spelling... although, the spelling suits my sister. I don't know why, but it does.

^Haha. Sounds like your dad. I guess we already knew that he's weird - eating tortillas with cutlery? Um, no.

Anyway. I found some email printouts in a filing cabinet a while ago, from Dad to some colleagues, and all of them were asking what "Aparna" meant. So I asked my parents and they told me the story behind the name:

The Hindu goddess Parvati wanted to bring the god Shiva out of his cave, where he'd been living for a while since his wife had died. So Parvati went to the cave every day, and brought flowers and fruit to try and get him to fall in love with her, but he never looked at her.

She decided to invoke other goddesses - Priti, the goddess of love/longing, and Rati, the goddess of erotica. Kama (God of lust and desire) came as well, and shot love-arrows into Shiva's heart - but Shiva was enraged rather than enamoured, and so opened his third eye and incinerated Kama.

Rati (Kama's consort) was devastated, and managed to convince Shiva that there could be no joy in the world without desire. Parvati vowed that Kama would be reborn when she won Shiva's heart. She also realised that she would have to prove just how much she loved him, and so set herself a penance.

She went into the forest, and began Tapas (a form of purification and spiritual enlightenment). She refused to protect her body from the harsh weather, and ate nothing - not even leaves falling from the trees. Hence, people began to call her Aparna: "without a leaf".

Taylor, I'm usually nocturnal, I'm awake from 12:00 am or something and I start sleeping at 7:00 am on weekends, but on weekdays I'm a hyper night-person, I sleep after school. School starts at 8:00 am, and ends at 3:30 so I sleep at 3:30.

They changed it to "Sorcerer's Stone" in America, cause Scholastic thought that most American kids wouldn't know what a philosopher is. JKR regrets agreeing to it, now - but back then, she really had no other choice.
