It was 10:00 December 31st 2012 and the Central Park Zoo जानवर were buzzing with excitement. In one hour, they'd be heading out to the park, and having a New Years Eve party. Not all the जानवर were going, as the big जानवर might attract attention. But the Penguins were going, so were the Lemurs, Marlene and the Chimps.

"What's my job at the party sir?" Ashley asked Skipper eagerly, his big green eyes shining with anticipation. A few of the जानवर had jobs at the party, like Rico was to set off the fireworks, Mason had to keep an eye out for humans, and Skipper was setting out the food.

"Urm, I don't think आप have one kiddo." Skipper replied, sipping his मछली coffee.

"Oh.." Ashley said, a hint of disappointment in his voice. Skipper thought hard and smiled at the young penguin.

"I tell आप what, why don't आप help me set out the food?" Skipper suggested, patting Ashley's shoulder.

"Okay!" Ashley agreed, his bright smile back on his face. He scurried off towards his bunk, and Skipper couldn't help but chuckle.

"Why would he ask for a job?" Tom asked, turning around from the Tv.

"Because he's eager to help, and not lazy, unlike some people in this room." Skipper replied, smirking at his brother. Tom rolled his eyes and turned back to the Tv, trying to hide the little smile edging it's way on his face.

"Where's Emma and Kowalski, Skippah?" Private asked, brushing his Lunacorn.

"Probably inventing some world ending device." Skipper replied bluntly, stirring the मछली in his coffee then eating it.

"Hehehe.." Rico sniggered.

Meanwhile..

In the lab, Emma and Kowalski were working on an invisible forcefield, या as Kowalski called it, the Invisi-field. They were planning on putting it over Central Park, so that no humans could enter. They had almost finished it, and with only an घंटा to go, they'd have to pick up the pace.

"What if the humans realise they can't get in, and get suspicious?" Emma asked, screwing a bolt into the device.

"Don't worry, I'm installing a feature in, that instead of just repelling them, it makes them also wish to go somewhere else." Kowalski answered cheerfully.

"Impressive." Emma remarked, smiling at him. He smiled back, and they began to work in silence. If they talked a lot, they got distracted and ended up not finishing an invention, या making a mistake. Emma thought about New Years, and her mind drifted to resolutions. She never usually made one, because she never knew what to choose. Honestly, Emma wasn't a big प्रशंसक of New Years, mainly because the resolutions, and the start of another year, reminded her that she was just one पेंगुइन in a massive universe, full of so many lives, and it always made her wonder. What was the meaning of life? She was glad that her and her फ्रेंड्स and family were alive, but why were they? Who would remember any of them in the future? She felt so insignificant, compared to the whole Universe, and all the wonders it held. What was one penguin's life compared to-

"Emma, are आप ok?" Kowalski asked, derailing Emma's train of thought.

"Hm..? Oh I'm ok Kowalski." She reassured him, managing a small smile.

"Em, I know when your not alright, and this is one of those times." Kowalski replied firmly, putting down his tools and hugging her tightly. Emma wrapped her flippers around his back and stroked his head feathers slowly. "What's wrong?" Kowalski whispered, pulling away slightly, and stroking Emma's cheek lightly. Emma's eyes fell on the invention, then the clock.

"We'll talk later, we haven't got long to finish this." Emma reminded him, pointing to the Invisi-field. Kowalski looked like he was going to protest, then he glanced at the clock.

"Right, good point." He agreed, picking up his tools again, and getting back to work. As the time drew closer, Skipper popped his head around the door, surprising the two penguins.

"Skips, आप know you've gotta knock, आप can't just barge in." Emma told him irritably.

"Why not?" Skipper replied, a little snappishly, as he walked up to Emma.

"Because this is our lab, would आप like it if I used your coffee mug?" Emma asked.

"Definitely not." Skipper replied sharply.

"Well, the learn to knock first, या I will start using your coffee mug." Emma threatened. Skipper looked outraged, but before he had a chance to say anything, Ashley came bounding in behind him.

"Hey lass, what's that you're making?" He asked brightly.

"It's an invisible forcefield, so that there will be no humans in Central Park." Emma explained, smiling warmly at the younger penguin.

"Is it nearly done?" Skipper asked, looking towards the clock, which now read 10:35pm.

"Yes, we've just got to add the finishing touches." Kowalski replied, screwing in another bolt. Emma helped, and in about 5 minutes, they finished.

"Good, now lets go." Skipper ordered. "We still have to set the tables, and the explosives." The others nodded and Emma grabbed her drawstring bag, as they all headed out. Kowalski walked out after them, completely forgetting about the Invisi-Field. They stopped द्वारा the Otter, बंदर, लेमूर and the Chimp habitats, picking up the inhabitants, and sneaking into the park. They found a nice clear spot, द्वारा the lake, and Rico hacked up a large array of fireworks, and attached them to a group of switches.

"Kaboom!" He exclaimed gleefully.

"Not yet, when the खाना is set up." Skipper told him sternly.

"Aww..." Rico grumbled. He then threw up a table, and Skipper turned to Ashley, Tom and Private, who had been holding the food. Skipper took the खाना from Private and Tom, then he and Ashley set it around the table. Everything from fish, to fruit, to chocolate, to चॉकलेट dipped मछली and फल was there.

"Ooh, parting and snackying and fireworkying!" Julien exclaimed. "Maurice!" He called clapping his paws together.

"What is it your highness?" Maurice asked, sounding bored.

"I decree that every party we have now, will have snacks and fireworks!" He declared.

"And foot touching?" Mort asked hopefully. hugging Julien's feet. Julien just flung his foot high into the air, and watched in satisfaction as Mort flew into a nearby tree, shouting, 'Yay!' as he went. He came scurrying down a few मिनटों later, his eyes bright.

"Ringtail, आप can't have fireworks at other parties people will notice!" Skipper said, putting a flipper to his head.

"Ah. but people are supposed to be noticing me." Julien replied smugly. "Silly penguin." He added, patting Skipper's head. Skipper growled and he felt a tap on his shoulder.

"Just ignore the nutty lad sir." Ashley advised, as he put the last plate of खाना on the table.

"You don't know how hard that is." Skipper remarked.

"Ooh, it's meleven!" Julien exclaimed, getting out his Boomy Box and turning it on. संगीत blasted out of it, and nearly sent Mort falling backwards.

"Ugh...." Skipper muttered, walking over to Kowalski, who was setting out some small wooden benches.

"Kowalski, I think it's time for आप to put up your forcefield now." He told him.

"Right away Skipper I-" He stopped abruptly when he realised he didn't have it. "Great, I must have left it the lab." He कहा aloud, frustrated with himself. He looked up at the पहाड़ी, हिल that they had easily sled down to get here and gulped.

"You're going to have to climb that soldier." Skipper कहा sternly. "I don't want any humans here."

"Aye sir." Kowalski mumbled. He noted that it had took them about 20 मिनटों to get here, and that was sliding down the hill. He calculated that it would take him at least another 55 मिनटों to get back to the lab, get the Invisi-field, run a quick test, and get back. His eyes fell on Emma, who was chatting with Marlene. He sighed, remembering how she was in the lab. He didn't want to leave her, parties weren't really her thing anyway. "Skipper, if Emma asks where I am, tell her and say I'll be back soon." He said, before beginning to climb the steep hill. Skipper nodded and waddled off.

About 15 मिनटों later, Kowalski finished climbing the hill. He looked down, and noticed Skipper talking with Marlene, and Emma was chatting with Ashley. He noticed every few seconds, she turned her head, as if she was looking for someone.

"Darn it Skipper, tell her where I am." Kowalski whispered angrily, he slid off towards the zoo, hoping that Emma wouldn't be too upset at his absence.

At 11:45 Rico was allowed to set off the first firework, and the जानवर stopped dancing, and let out an appreciative 'Oooh!' Except for Emma who merely covered her ears as her eardrums rang. She rubbed her earholes, and covered them again, when the सेकंड was set off. She looked around and spotted a quiet spot on the other side of the lake. It was on a slight hill, so she'd have a good view of the fireworks, but wouldn't have to be hurt द्वारा the noise.

"Hey Ash, I'm gonna go over there for a little bit, the noise is hurting my earholes." She told him.

"Ok lass, do आप want me to come with you?" He asked cheerfully.

"No it's alright, आप go and have fun." She told him, walking towards the quiet, isolated area. She sat down द्वारा a पेड़ and leant her head back, watching as the fireworks exploded in the sky, filling it with bold, bright colours. Even with this lovely display, Emma couldn't help but feel a little sad. Kowalski was nowhere to be seen, and she really wanted to tell him what was on her mind, what had been getting her down, and got her down every New Year. She sighed and stared at the party, at all of her फ्रेंड्स having a good time. She preferred it over here anyway, it was nice, quiet, and nobody could ask her what was wrong. She opened her little drawstring bag, and checked the time. It was 11:53, and soon, Rico would be setting off the big, special firework, that spelt out Happy New Year. She felt a little annoyed at Kowalski, though she felt like it wasn't his fault that he wasn't here. She sighed unhappily and stared at the floor, unaware that Kowalski was sliding down the पहाड़ी, हिल as fast as he could, the Invisi-field tucked safely in his flipper. He practically tumbled down the last part of the slope, and ran over to Skipper.

"Here it is." He told him breathlessly. He put it on the floor, and activated it. A small transparent bubble appeared, and got larger and larger, until it surrounded the whole of Central Park. The bubble then completely disappeared from view.

"Great work Kowalski." Skipper marvelled, though he was expecting it to explode.

"Thanks Skipper." Kowalski replied. "Er, did आप tell Emma where I went?" He asked.

"She never asked." Skipper replied simply.

"She doesn't know where I went, she's probably been worried sick! Where is she?" Kowalski asked, slightly frustrated at his leader. Skipper shrugged his shoulders and Kowalski sighed irritably, and walked off. He scanned the crowd and felt a pang of worry when Emma was nowhere to be seen. He looked over at Ash, and remember he was with her when he last saw her. "Hey Ashley, have आप seen Emma around?" He asked, trying to sound cheerful.

"Sure lad, she's right over there." The young पेंगुइन replied brightly, pointing towards the other side of the lake. Kowalski followed his flipper, and noticed Emma leaning against a tree, far away from the others. She was staring into the sky, and even though there was a smile on her face, he could tell she was upset. He began to walk towards her, hoping she wouldn't be too mad with him. She turned her head for a brief second, and her face lit up as she saw Kowalski walking up to her. He sat down beside her and hugged her tightly.

"I'm so sorry I haven't been here Em, I forgot the Invisi-field and Skipper made me go and get it." He explained, stroking her hair comfortingly.

"It's alright, it wasn't your fault." Emma replied, hugging him back. He smiled and held her flippers.

"Now, what's wrong?" He asked gently. Emma sighed and spilled everything that was on her mind, from resolutions to the importance of life. Kowalski's eyes widened and he wasn't very sure on what to say. He took a deep breath, and tried to think of some comforting words. "Emma, आप may only be one life in this gigantic universe, but you're the most important person in mine, and I will do anything to make sure that your life is happy and amazing." He began. "And yes, one day, not many people will remember us, but think about that diary you've got, you've learned about people from thousands because of it, and आप told me that your Great Great Grandma told आप that you'll see your family again, and they will always remember you." He reasoned. "And it doesn't matter if people thousands of साल from now don't remember you, what matters is now, and the people that care about आप now, the ones who stick द्वारा you. They're the ones who matter, not people you'll never meet in the future." He told her gently. Emma looked thoughtful and she began to smile.

"You're right Kowalski, who cares about future people, people who are around now matter, आप especially." She told him a little shyly, hugging him tightly. He smiled and hugged her back, running his flipper up and down her back softly. Emma shivered slightly at the action, and nuzzled his neck gently. "Thanks for comforting me Kowalski, आप always know what to say to make me feel better." She whispered, hugging him tighter.

"You're welcome Em, I'll always be here for you." Kowalski replied nuzzling her neck back.

"And I'll always be here for you." Emma told him, smiling shyly at him. Their attention was suddenly took द्वारा the other animals, who had just started the New Years countdown.

"Do आप wanna शामिल होइए in?" Kowalski asked. Emma nodded and he smiled.

"10." Emma said.

"9." Kowalski said, joining in, deciding to take it in turns.

"8."

"7."

"6."

"5."

"4."

"3."

"2."

"1." Kowalski said, taking her द्वारा surprise and चुंबन her. She kissed back, stroking his cheek and the जानवर around them shouted 'HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!' and a massive explosion boomed in the distance. The two penguins pulled away and glanced at the sky, watching as the gigantic golden लेखन that spelt out 'Happy New Year!' began to fade.

"Happy New साल Kowalski." Emma whispered, leaning her head on his shoulder and cuddling up to him.

"Happy New साल Emma." Kowalski replied, wrapping an arm around her back, and stroking her hair, as the both stared into the twinkling sky, filled with stars and fireworks.
