I guess this could be a good way to change public opinion about EVs: start with a high-performance, limited appeal car. Myself, I want a car to replace my regular car: nothing fancy, just a good-sized sedan that can carry 4 people comfortably, plus some trunk space. I want a car I can use for any of the tasks for which I use a car: moving furniture, traveling with my family, lugging supplies, going shopping, commuting to work, a car that looks OK but not something I'm going to have to pamper...in other words, an unexceptional car, which happens to have an electric engine. But no manufacturer seems interested in making such an useful EV - it probably seems pretty risky, even though I'm sure that's where the biggest need is - so a sports car might work to encourage the industry to move in that direction, if it sells well.
