How much Doctor Who do I need to watch before starting Torchwood?

Though these fine people do very well answering your question, I thought I'd pitch in, considering I was once in a similar situation.

I began watching Torchwood online before I ever watched Doctor Who, because I knew it was a sci-fi दिखाना about aliens. It was advertised on TV and theaters here, and nothing was mentioned about it having anything to do with Doctor Who. So I was bored one day, and remembered it, and decided to watch.

Watching it, I got confused a couple of times when Jack mentioned the doctor, and I was completely baffled as to Jack's immortality, and thought it was a Torchwood mystery to be explained. After season one of torchwood, I realized (finally - lol) that it was a DW spin-off, so I began season one of DW to catch up with Torchwood... and got addicted. I finished all of DW before going back and finishing season two of Torchwood.

However, I do think that watching all of season one of Doctor Who helps introduce आप to the world of Torchwood, and Jack. It explains several things the दिखाना touches on, and you'll know और about Jack than Gwen, Owen, Tosh, even Ianto does (at first). I kind of wish I'd watched it in order, in retrospect. But since I did watch all DW seasons, and all Torchwood seasons eventually, I completely understand the new series now. So it's six of one, half dozen of the other, I guess.

Torchwood stands alone very well but there are some bits where they mention Doctor Who (as it is the main show). For example, in Torchwood Jack disapears for a little bit and then if आप watch Doctor Who, Jack is there for a few episodes (Episodes 11, 12 and 13, season 3,'Utopia', 'The Sound Of Drums' and 'Last Of The Time Lords'). But आप do not need to see these its just to tie it in. Also आप may be interested too know there is also another Doctor Who spin-off 'The Sarah-Jane Adventures', this is और for the younger ones. i dont think u'll b left wondering and missing things. they pretty much stand alone. well, the cardiff rift and the dr's mentioned of course, and martha jones is in both shows for a bit... but even then they do a good job of keeping them separate and yet still fit together. enjoy!!

like कहा above torchwood stands very well on its own. they tell आप everything आप need to know about jack and touchwood in the series. but i think it is और enjoyable if आप watch at lest season one of doctor who to understand jack and season two to learn और about torchwood.

If आप want to get the 411 on Jack आप should proabably watch the 'Bad Wolf' finale, S1, with 9th doctor, Rose and Cap. Jack. Other than that, you're pretty much set. Torchwood's brilliant!

I started wathing Torchwood before i even knew about Doctor Who, I live in Denmark, so I can only watch it on the internet. I to प्यार the Jack/Ianto relationship, I [As the nerd that I am] Googled about Torchwood and found out about Doctor Who.

From series 1-2 especially series 2 as that's when torchwood is created in episode 2( Tooth & Claw ) द्वारा क्वीन Victoria ! at the torchwood institute in Scotland 1879 after a warewolf is on the loose .P.s Captain Jack Harkness First appears in series 1 Of doctor Who In the Episode ( The Empty Child ) also we see Eva Myles ( Gwen)
in one episode of doctor who called ( The unquiet Dead ) of series 1 she played a maid which is totally un-related to torchwood as she played a different character .

no आप should at least watch all the times with jack in Doctor Who या आप won't get a lot of stuff but to get that आप have to watch everything up to the end of time so आप have to watch a lot
