Sure, being close to perfection makes you a good role model. For example, I think that my ex-university fellow gave a lot important lessons. She is by far better role model than me and so do DPs she resembles(IMO).
I dont understand how aurora is not a good role model ? I think Follow your family instead of running away is a good thing and she is mature and responsable
At this point. I'll be voting for her, forever. But with 6 flaws that most people write-off as not even existing in Belle--- this makes me dislike Belle all the more.
I told Adelital that I don't consider any of the princesses role model material. Not any of them!!!! This countdown will go like the following:
11. Merida
10. Ariel
9. Jasmine
8. Snow White
7. Aurora
6. Cinderella
5. Mulan
4. Tiana
3. Rapunzel
2.Pocahontas
1. Belle
So, technically, there isn't ANY point in me participating anymore. All of my favorite princesses, and even the classics, will be at the bottom.
All this countdown will achieve is creating a huge row of "perfect against imperfect."
I don't need this. GOOD-BYE.
So, Mulan won similar countdowns before. Big deal. I wasn't involved in any of the "role model countdowns" for a reason! They are sickening, and users behave abominably-- just so their favorite doesn't leave.
I wish you would drop this countdown. I really do.
For example I know Jasmine will be voted out early, but to me she is a huge role model as I find her outspokenness, ability to stand up for herself while still remaining a good person admirable as mostly I'm too shy/anxious to do so, but to others she wouldn't be viewed as a role model as she's not polite enough. I don't find Ariel a good role model for myself as I believe she doesn't learn from her mistakes and find the Ursula deal haphazard, but I fully understand why others would find her a good role model as she's determined in the pursuit of her dreams. It's just all unique to each individual's experience, what they admire in someone and how they believe a person should act, so there's no right or wrong answer, and I find it very hard to pick an option because who am I to say who is or isn't a good role model when others will look up to that character for the same reasons?
Adelital, I voted for Aurora because she is not inspiring to me at all. She didn't do anything, and is too passive
I vote for Ariel because as a chronic over thinker who self defeats often, in find Ariel's faith and courage inspiring.
But I won't participate either. It's too subjective. This countdown is more like "which princess makes. the most mistakes and has the most flaws" Rather than "who is the best role model" And the two are not opposites
It's nigh impossible to vote for anyone because all the DPs have at least some admirable qualities that others might look up to. I can't possibly say who's better or who's worse - just because I don't personally find a certain Princess a good role model, it doesn't mean she isn't a good role model. It's not for me to say. It's all relative. Also it'll more likely create petty arguments than it will intelligent debate. I'm not saying Adelital shouldn't continue with it, just that I don't really agree with the idea.
Normal polls are subjective, sure. But they aren't skewed towards a single user's opinion.
And this countdown doesn't necessairly cause fights. The first round was entirely peaceful. There are enough people who are capable of peaceful and civilised disagreement.
Swanpride, thanks for defension.
I have to wince at that kind of logic. As for using the term Mary Sue, it fits. Because if you are going to go around saying Ariel is a cautionary tale, and she isn't a role model, then I feel free to say that Rapunzel, Belle, Tiana, and Pocahontas are pretty much bland...Mary Sues...who don't learn anything, because they don't have to learn anything. They already know everything. So what can they possibly learn? Not much. And the movies in which they appear demonstrate that they stay static characters.
@Adelital: I am just about finished with your snarky retorts. Your countdown is skewed. It doesn't have an objective opinion. The best thing about the official DP lineup is that princesses you don't like are actually in it, and you can't talk to me about removing them ( i.e., Jasmine for instance). I didn't like how you went after BB2010's article. I didn't like your retort when I said that I loved Ariel's wardrobe. You went on the attack mode, and gave me all of that "overrated nonsense." And then you started attacking Mulan, too, these last couple of days---for good measure, just so that you could continue to be annoying and try to get under my skin.
I'm not reading the results of your countdown, because, like I said--- it will consist of Rapunzel, Belle, Tiana, and Pocahontas at the top. You just should have written another article on your favorites instead of starting another nasty fight.
@Everyone else: I've reported this countdown. I'm tired of dealing with those who attempt to take a cohesive club and swing it in the opposite direction. I don't and won't stand for people who attempt to write off the princesses that make "huge mistakes," while uplifting and praising static characters who make hardly any. That's pissy. It's derogatory, and I won't be flim-flammed by users "pretending" to judge "morality of character," when all they really are doing is getting a chance to dump on other users who don't share their views.
And, above all, I think that your attitude is very off-putting. It is okay to not participate in a countdown...I for example didn't participate in the "who is the most evil" countdown because I don't think that you can really measure evilness. But I didn't stick around and tell other people that what they are doing is stupid. I have no idea what your issue with Adelital is other than a difference of opinion about who is the greatest princess. So what? Why is it so important for you that everyone agrees with you? I mean, it is okay to express disappointment if you feel that your fav is underappreciated in general, but not to attack other members just because they happen to not agree with you.
I stand by reporting this countdown and ANY future role model countdowns which yield lopsided results.
I suppose I should thank you for allowing me to see how dead set you are on making me "the problem" as you support another user's attempts to drive a huge wedge among members of the club.
And, just for the record, I am a staunch defender of Ariel. That doesn't mean that I think she had to score high in every category.
Instead of splitting hairs, and going into who-supports-Ariel-and-who-doesn't, maybe we can, um, you know ---GET RID of a countdown whose sole function is to criticize those princesses who make the most mistakes? Because, unfortunately, not everybody sees mistakes as horrible-- gasp-- and not everyone thinks so highly of people who "claim not to make any mistakes."

I also have to point out that The Little Mermaid made it into the top ten of the best Animated movies of the 20th century article series.
And, btw, I actually intend to vote for Snow White next because I feel that she sets an impossible standard of goodness. This is NOT about who makes the least mistakes. This is about whose motives and ways to reach their goals set a better example.
No wonder that I disagree with you. That's more than standard criticism. That's ideology. You are flat out stating that not only did these princesses make mistakes--- but their motives were wrong, and the manner in which they attempted to resolve their conflict was wrong. Wow. Just wow.
Okay. I will just DISAGREE, because this just isn't anything like a normal countdown about the princesses at all. And I will definitely continue reporting how divisive this is to the Fanpop mods.
Also, do you know what a logical fallacy is? You jut indulged in one.
