Wonderful! It's rare at my age (25) to find a decent guy who hasn't been married before or have kids...not that that's a bad thing, I've just been there done that. My ex had 3 small chidlren and the ex-wife from HELL, so I don't feel like going through all that drama again, lol. He's 3 years older than me, never been married, no kids...but he wants all of those things eventually, like I do. I like him VERY much :)

I couldn't not choose this! Every guy who I think is reasonably attractive or nice or whatever I always try to decipher whether they're charming or not (most have the charm of an anteater) so yeah, he's got to be charming.

Should faithful and trustworthy be the same thing? I would like to be able to have a guy who would not stab me in the back by being with someone else other than me.

He doesn't have to be able to sing but that would such a turn-on if he could. He doesn't have to be a good dancer either. It's just that I love to dance, even though I suck at it, so I want a dance partner. I would like it if he was charming, adventurous, and made my dreams come true. (Which he could do just by being faithful to me and take me on adventures)

How can Eric be the representative for "faithful"? He's the only prince who is unfaithful to his beloved! Eric declares his love for and intent to marry "the one". But he ends up almost kissing Ariel anyway, even though at that point he's still in love with "the one". That means he almost physically cheats on the one. Later, he definitively chooses Ariel over "the one", meaning he emotionally cheats on the one also!

Sure, Eric eventually finds out that Ariel was "the one" all along. But he didn't know it at the time.

The thing is that Eric is "faithful" because the whole point of his relationship with mute Ariel is him choosing the real girl over an unrealistic idealized image of the one. While Ariel and Eric formed an unbreakable bond when Ariel saved his life, it was mostly Ariel who got a chance to get to know him and saw him doing things that defined him as a person, such as being nice to people less privileged than him like Grimsby, loving music (playing flute) and willingly risking his life to save his dog. And according to those things she managed to form a certain opinion on him and get attracted to him. But Eric didn't know anything about Ariel (even her name) other than the fact that she most likely saved him and sang him a song while he was unconscious. Obviously, Eric's mind of a dreamer and his determination to find "the one" who would strike him like a lightning viewed it as a sign, but the truth was that his love for "the one" at that point was really based on nothing, it was more of an ideal he created in his head. But mute Ariel is the new girl whom he developed real feelings for once he spent time with her and without even knowing that she was that "ideal" he had in his mind, building it according to his own imagination because he didn't even know "the one" who saved him as a person, and it only highlighted how faithful he was to Ariel because even without knowing about her being "the one" he always chose her. In the end of the day his dream ended up coming true and he found his true love exactly the way he wanted to find it - she stroke him like a lightning and since then it was always her, no matter in what way or form. Obviously, most of it was on a deeply subconscious level, but still. He had no official or unofficial commitments to "the one" previously, that's why he cannot be called "unfaithful".

Now, when it comes to what qualities I would like for a boyfriend, it really has to do with him being able to respect my wishes and dreams, even if he wouldn't be able to make them come true, although if he tries, it would definitely be a pleasent bonus.

While you could make a case that Eric didn't really cheat, or that it didn't really count, it still wouldn't make him the best representative for being faithful.

Let's compare and contrast Eric with Phillip. Phillip is the prince whose situation is most similar to Eric's.

Like Eric, Phillip falls for a girl with a beautiful voice. Like Eric, he decides and declares that he's going to marry her. Like Eric, he declares his intent to marry before finding out what she thinks about it, or even finding out her name.

But when Phillip is told he's going to marry Princess Aurora, he simply dismisses the idea without even giving "Princess Aurora" any consideration. What about Princess Aurora's feelings? What if she wants to marry Phillip? Phillip doesn't care. He has already decided who he's going to marry. He has already declared who he's going to marry. Phillip is faithful to his declared love. Phillip is faithful to his dream girl.

Phillip doesn't have any crisis of faith. He just laughs off the thought of any other girl. When he finds out the truth that his peasant dream girl was actually Princess Aurora in cognito, it's no big deal to him. Sure, it's convenient for everyone else, but to him the betrothal to "Princess Aurora" had only been some ignorable trivial annoyance anyway.

Okay, it's not a perfectly fair contest because Phillip got to spend a few minutes with Briar Rose, and because Phillip never had to physically meet the exceptionally beautiful "Princess Aurora". Nevertheless, Phillip passed his test, where Eric failed his. From what we see, Phillip is a paragon of faithful devotion, whereas Eric isn't.

Don't get me wrong--I think Phillip is a less interesting character, and Sleeping Beauty has a less interesting story. Sleeping Beauty missed out on a great deal of potential. The build up could have been followed through with a TLM-like story line full of romantic drama and tension. Instead, character development got short shrift.

The key thing is that Phillip never got to spend even a minute with "Princess Aurora", at least that's what he thought, because Briar Rose was the only girl at that periode of time that he got to meet and fall for. No matter if he spent only two or five minutes with Briar Rose, they still had a bonding and a process - although an incredibly fast process which perhaps was supposed to represent a classical "love at first sight" story - of falling in love. Whereas Eric's entire character journey revolved around, however, meeting a "NEW" girl, not knowing she was "the one" he was looking for, the one he happened to already fall in love with despite them not saying a word to each other, and slowly developing feelings for this "new" girl in a process of getting to know her. For Eric, "the one" was more like Princess Aurora, some gorgeous girl he knew nothing about with the only difference that while Eric's nature of a dreamer at least made him believe he was in love with "the one", Phillip didn't happen to have any feelings for Aurora, but that's the whole point of Eric's development: to move on from an unrealistic ideal and be able to fall in love with a REAL girl, to build a mature love with someone he can relate to and enjoy spending time with. Same happened to Phillip in those short minutes he spent with Briar Rose. In the beginning of Eric/Ariel build up, Ariel's love, while still being hopeless and naive, was different from Eric's love, because she at least got to see Eric doing things that defined him as a person when watching him, but Eric did not know anything about that girl with gorgeous voice, he didn't even know for sure whether it was her who saved him or it were waves that helped him to the shore. Eric was drawn to an unrealistic idealized dream, a girl he knew nothing about, a girl that could very well be his imagination because he was the only one who saw her when starting to come back to his senses after being unconscious. He was not commited to her, "her" was just a figment of his imagination at that point. Whereas the mute Ariel was the one he actually fell in love with and he proved his willingess to be with her and to die for her by the end.

Phillip is a good character and I like Sleeping Beauty but I wish Aurora had gotten more screen time.

I understand all that. But that doesn't change the fact that Eric's a most odd choice to be the representative for "faithful".

And it doesn't change the way Eric felt inside. Just rewatch Kiss the Girl. Just look at Eric the first time Ariel offer her lips (the first "Sha-la-la-la-la-la"). He knows on the inside he's cheating. Even the second time...he's still not really ready inside.

He was not cheating even if his mind and attitude of a hopeless dreamer told him so. He was growing as a person being able to choose a real girl over some unrealistic ideal and never for once he cheated on this real girl, not before he found out that she was actually "the one", nor after that.

Even if, as you say, it wasn't truly cheating, Eric truly knows how it feels to cheat.

I'd even say Eric knows how it feels to cheat more than Robert, who never seemed to have passionate feelings for Nancy--not the way Eric had feelings for "the one".
