It's more shocking than a tear jerker....easily the most effective mood whiplash in Disney history, though.

AdelitaI picked Ariel crying at the pier:
The village is the saddest of these to me. I am very patriotic, antimilitaristic and traumatophobiac. And I also very afraid of early loss of my elder. And some of my friends even faced the war. It makes me really hate Shan Yu. When I watched 1 season of Game of Thrones, I highly related to the witch that caused Drogo's death( no, she is not a good person but neither is me).
I find everything related to homeland and war very poweful.
Also unlike the rest of scenes, in the village scene heroes faced with irrecoverrable tragedy and not with what they mistaked for it. A bunch of people is dead forever.

disnerdtobe picked The King and Queen's scene before releasing the lanterns:
I don't feel sad in this scene. This is just objectively sad. Again, I don't find the scenes in Tangled to be emotional as a whole. Many Tangled fans like to point to Frozen and say that Tangled is superior because it's more emotional but I disagree. I find Frozen to much more emotional and heartbreaking than Tangled.

I agree with Adelital. Anything to do with the loss of parent is tear jerking, especially someone that Shang really looked up to. It's the death of a very important person, the death of many people, and the death of a village, a place that will forever be lost. It's very bare, and hollow and it just gives a feeling of emptiness. The scene may be very short but it's very effective. Sometimes I fast forward through that scene because it's a little too much.

Why exactly is there a need to compare Tangled to Frozen? I actually thought this stupid discussion has died down by now...

This one is the least sad one. It borders on shocking and lasts few seconds. I find the other other more heartbreaking
